At which point, they may as well eliminate hitting from the game.

You are always allowed to pin a guy to the boards.

Face first to the glass isn't the ideal position for a guy with the puck to make a play either.

I mean Joe Thornton and Draisaitl used this tactic a lot, but it seems like only a big fat ass with high end skills can really utilize it effectively.

My assessment:

1st hit - clean by the rule book but reckless.

2nd hit - suspendable offense.

Both hits - WTF are the Kraken D-men doing having their back to the play for so long, that close to the boards, without any movement and without taking a look? This does not excuse Pospisil's actions but if my Kid was doing this in minor hockey, I would be giving him the gears after the game for not protecting himself. It's like defensive driving, just because it's not your fault doesn't mean you couldn't have prevented it.

Dangerous hits with opponent in a vulnerable position in both cases.

I agree though - especially behind the net - you shouldn't leave yourself in a vulnerable position like that for so long.

Does it seem like players will position themselves like this in some cases in hopes they won't get smashed?

I think Dunn does in fact deserve some criticism for being so nonchalant and or oblivious on that play. This wasn't exactly a bang-bang play.. He stood in an incredibly dangerous area of the ice for a significant amount of time. This isn't beer league - you know Huska would have given Pospisil an earful if he did a fly by on that play. In saying that Pospisil clearly needs to learn how to play as close to that line as possible without going over it. I think that will come but you don't want him changing his game to much as that's what makes him so effective.

I think the game misconduct was the right call and it should stay at that. It put the game completely out of reach for Calgary.

Keep in mind the guy who hands these out has had so many concussions his brains probably look like a bowl of cottage cheese. It is just mind boggling of all the guys they could have doing player safety they chose a former goon with major CTE.

No question he got at least 1 extra game because he hit Larsson earlier in the game. Wheel spins again.

Should have been 2 at most, but NHL always adds the Flames tax

Meh, he had a lot of time to think about the hit and could have been pretty dangerous. Not a heavy suspension but nothing to complain about considering this year the NHL has given a game or two higher than previous years for dangerous stuff. Seems to be tightening up on this thing so I won't complain. It is what it is. Flames weren't screwed - just the league trying to get stuff out of the game sooner than later.

Licking the dasher to draw a penalty has become a strategy. Gross.
