Absolutely, and Conroy has been pretty open about creating space for younger players to make their mark. Moving Marky fits his organizational view because it gives Vladar and Wolf that space to make an impact.
The Flames are in the perfect spot to make this move.

Uhh, if that's the non retention package, then absolutely retain.
I think Holtz + 1st need to be centerpiece of the return.
If you can squeeze Mercer, then Mercer + 2nd sounds about right.

Once Hanifin is gone the goalies are going to get destroyed.
I would much rather take back Vanacek and tandem him with Vladar to finish the season and protect Wolf from having his confidence destroyed.

I really hope that this is the moment that Conroy was waiting for and he finally deals Markstrom.
We really need to find out what Vladar and Wolf truly are. Vladar seems to be solid given regular runs and not 1 game every 2 weeks. Wolf needs a string of games too. I think if we end the season playing Vanecek and Vladar as a tandem (for showcasing), there's a good chance that we can trade 1 of them this offseason to another team and bring Wolf up full time (if Vanecek is even healthy enough to play).
Markstrom + Rooney
for
Devils 1st 2024 + Holtz + Vanecek + 3rd 2025 (Turns into 2nd if Devils win 1 round in the playoffs this year).

If the principle of the trade was agreed upon previously (as reported), I would imagine this would get completed rather quickly (if it's going to happen at all). Hopefully it gets done. I like Markstrom, but really he's just hurting the team (long term) by playing so damn good.

Why is his confidence getting destroyed? You don't achieve what he's achieved as a pro already by being fragile. Goalies take time and I'd rather see him work out kinks this season so he knows what to work on and improve for next year.
Half a dozen random starts doesn't exactly set the table for a rookie goalie to be prepared to potentially start 30-50 games next year either.

Having multiple threads discussing the same topic creates more opportunities to feed our dopamine habits. When I complete reading posts in one thread and go back to the main forum, I see I have unread posts in another thread posting the exact same things!!!

So are we to believe earlier reports about the Flames keeping Markstrom? Or was this to just make NJ nervous? Lots of posturing going on

Don't take anything that people say in negotiations as concrete.

Not sure if TheFourthPeriod is the most reliable, and none of the other big insiders said anything about the Flames deciding to keep Markstrom, so I'm thinking trade talk ain't dead(especially with LeBrun saying don't turn the page on the Marky to NJ trade just yet).

Which is also a big part of why we should trade Markstrom.
Our blueline is going to be awful and his numbers will suffer towards the end of the season if he stays and has to play in front of that.
Trade value will almost certainly be a lot lower in the off season.

You can try to turn that 2nd in to a 1st is fine, trying to holdout for Mercer isn't going to happen.
If anyone can find a team ever trading a 22 year old potential second like C for a soon to be 35 year old goalie or any goalie for that matter please do.
It's not like we are just taking what we can get. These are good pieces coming back.

Please trade Markstrom. I will feel so much better about the direction of this. Pretty please.

Sounds like with this and the Markstrom comments things just became a whole lot more likely to happen.
I agree that it's probably the right thing to do but some of us on here appear to be utterly insensitive to the fact that this is a real life thing and not a trading card swap on recess. Marky has been great and deserves more respect than he's being shown here.
