Seems this has to happen eventually in the sport. Just feels like too many 7 and 8 year deals being handed out. They won't all work and teams are going to be hamstrung with the cap leaving less money for younger players.
Other pro sports don't have this kind of term really. Even MLB, with no hard cap and far more players, you don't see as many long term contracts it seems.

I don't like the idea of trading Andersson unless he has demanded a trade.

From what I’ve head, don’t be surprised if we start hearing some names looking to be moved if we trade Markstrom…

Shouldn't surprise people if it's true. It's clear that Markstrom is one of the most popular guys in the room and seen as one of the clear leaders of the group. He's also acknowledged as being the team's best player on most nights this year by other players, and without him, players who aren't interested in being a bottom dweller so that the Flames can get a kid who will be part of the big club in 3-5 years might not be something they're interested in.

Meh. He hasn’t really progressed much in the last couple seasons. Pretty predictable offensively (skates pucks too deep and around the net off the rush and telegraphs every pass especially on the pp). Great character though but if we have a mass exodus from here may as well explore his value too.

That’s fine haha
It’s not like we are exactly sitting on a championship roster right now anyway?

Ya not hard to see from a hockey team perspective. If you are trying to win and your team trades one of the best goalies in the league who wins you games, it is clear that this or next year year won't be the year to win anything.

It honestly doesn't matter how good our blueline is if we don't have any elite centers. If our blueline is the key to getting assets like draft picks and prospects, while helping put us in a better draft position to get elite center, we should do it.
But the return has to be good. No "Jay Bouwmeester for Morgan Klimchuk and some C prospects" type nonsense
