The number of things I've seen stated about Treliving as a matter of fact that are actually things inside his head, or at very least inside Flames offices has been astounding in the past couple of weeks.

I do think the aftermath of the Gaudreau and Tkachuck departures was more of an organizational reaction as opposed to any one Individual. It looked like no one wanted to play in Calgary and the Flames were offering Roubles to everyone who wanted green backs.

I don't think the Tkachuck trade was that bad, and the first from that deal was always likely intended to upgrade Monahan in some way. It's just that a lot of what could go wrong g sort of has. Monahan was untradable last season, and might have walked as a free agent.

I will contest that Trelivings poor coaching hires, which resulted in Sutter being forced in ultimately caused much of this grief. Maybe with Sutter in place earlier the team wins more between 2018 and 2022. No Sutter, maybe the engage in a more youth based retool on the summer of 2022.

What done Treliving was low-balling Gaudreau and not waiting until free agency to give him a good offer. If he had done it earlier, then the top line stays in tact. Also signing Tkachuck to a bridge deal was a mistake.

Letting gaudreau walk in free agency isn't even in my top 3 critiques of BT

Yeah, especially when there's evidence to contradict almost every confidently stated "fact". And the same goes for others (eg. how Lindholm felt about Huberdeau, how Comroy is evaluating things, what Hanifin is thinking).

There were definitely external factors outside of anyone's control at work too. Both Tkachuk and Gaudreau were clearly pissed at not being able to visit friends and family across the border freely for almost 2 years. Being trapped in a bubble with D. Sutter clearly drove much of that roster to a breaking point.

Good point. There is certainly a case to be made that he had several other booboos that were just as bad.

Goes with the territory I guess.
It’s the summary of his body of work.

He walked away from this franchise, leaving it in a horrible state.

As impressed as I've been with the trades, I've been more impressed in the scouting and personal aspects behind these trades. You don't want to be here? Fine, we're bringing in someone who does, and will fit in right. Rookies coming up too. You don't perform? Back you go.

You have to love the energy and camaraderie that is happening right before our eyes.

Seems like the first time since possibly the Fletcher years that they're doing all the right things and being methodical and patient

What does seem clear based on what Conroy has done since he became GM (move Toffoli, Zadorov, Lindholm) for basically futures and two players younger than the ones being moved out is that the ownership is definitely willing to allow the GM to implement their vision for the team. I always suspected that was the case but given what has happened under Conroy it appears to be confirmed in my mind.

I am sorry. I know this sounds like speculative bullplop, but look at Treliving's last moves.

Those were the moves of a drowning man desperately searching for a life-preserver.

I think Toronto threw it to him. I do not, for one second, believe he was welcome back in Calgary.

He really screwed this pooch.

Craig Conroy (The Conman when dealing with other GMs) is literally re-making the team in his own image. Let's just get all happy smiling guys who love playing for each other and for the C!

Murrey's fault again!

So are we going to give him credit for all the good moves now or does he only get blamed for the bad ones? I suppose I should have said IMO but it certainly seemed like Tre was reckless with the future because he has one foot out the door. Given his family connections with the Leafs owner I wouldn't be surprised.

On what planet did Brad earn one of the highest profile GM jobs in the league? Especially immediately after his biggest blunders.

IMO

Wait a minute. Is Treliving related to Bell or Rogers? Because they own 75% of the Leafs between them, and I don't think they give two hoots in Hades about anyone's family connections when hiring a mid-level manager for one of their subsidiaries.

I think Murray is involved in all the decisions, but he allows the GM to implement their plan. Treliving probably told him this was a Stanley Cup contender and that it was time to go for it. Conroy came in and said the team needed to get younger and get more prospects. Murray allowed both GM’s to implement their visions.

Thing that got me with BT was how he left. Just felt he didn't bleed red hot....on to next job and team.

We will see what CC is as a GM. Difference is he has invested his career, family and citizenship into this community and org. If he fails, I wont believe its not because of effort and dedication, but rather luck and odds in a 30 plus team league.

BT always reminded me of management at the companies I worked for. He just drank the kool-aid and threw people under the bus to make himself look competent.

Talked a lot, without actually saying anything lol

Conroy so far has been proactive, Tre was mostly reactive. If you wanna win the cup in today’s NHL, you have to be the former

I thought one of the big problems over the years was having too many passengers. It's hard to win in this league if you've got a couple guys holding back. You could argue Dube and Lindholm although playing important roles we're still holding the team back. Both Tkachuck and Johnny had years where their noses seemed out of joint.

You need everyone going at once to win in this league.

So far Conroy has been the best Calgary GM since Cliff Fletcher.
Still early but hopefully he keeps it up!
