Not sure why people are surprised at the return, other than it being a reminder of how bad Treliving effed up.

Treliving is horrible. He’s also done nothing to help the Leafs. i bet he was trying to penny pinch Connie for Zadorov.

Glad to see there was a market for Monahan. He was probably out best playoff performer during his tenure here, so he'll be good on a long run. I like the Jets team, so hope he does well there.

Also smart usage by Montreal with Monahan.
Gave him lots of offensive opportunity and 1st unit PP to try to pump his value before flipping him.

Great asset management by Montreal though. They could use some good luck after starting a rebuild with Slafkovsky and Reinbacher.
Also I like that this seems like a seller's market. Looking forward to what we can get for our other UFAs, and maybe some other players too.

100% this, no way Monahan is getting a 1st on a $6 mil contract. Habs didn't give up on him and re-signed him. Good on them.
Still makes Brad look bad, but not as bad as some are making it out to be

lol they were mad that the Flames didn't retain on Lindholm and used that as evidence that they got a crappy return and there was no shift in direction.
However, any team could have signed Monahan to rebuild his value

honestly, I'm just still mad at the whole "give up a 1st to sign Kadri" thing. Hated it the minute it happened and it's only gotten worse. Just terrible, terrible asset management.

A conditional 2027 third rounder? LOL. That's what pushed this deal across the finish line.

Perhaps this is a reactionary move to Scheifele's injury being longer than expected.

Great depth for Winnipeg

and I'm happy for Monahan,
Pulling for the Jets this year

I've heard that the biggest person pushing to dump Monahan instead of Lucic was Sutter.
And Edwards was all in on getting Kadri with Treliving to prove that Calgary could attract free agents.
So I actually think that two of the big pieces of that outcome are gone in Sutter and Treliving.
The key remaining piece is Edwards.
Trading Toffoli, Zadorov, and Lindholm would indicate they aren't wasting assets anymore.

Now trade Kadri for two 1st rounders and all will be well
