The Flames have plenty of mediocre players, but not a single player on this team is a team driving talent.

The Flames have "depth" in that our 3rd line may be better than those found on other teams, but that doesn't matter in this league when the top end of your roster is this lacking in comparison to playoff teams. Their depth isn't even that impressive anymore - and it's getting quite old. After Lindy is gone, we'll have Kadri and Backlund down the middle...that won't result in anything.
And these are basically required to win a cup. Them and an elite goalie.
If the Flames were to miraculously win a cup, they'd be won of the biggest unicorns ever.

Treliving should be put on trial for what he did to this franchise before escaping in a life boat from a sinking ship.

Fun fact: I was flying back from Kelowna last night and Conroy was on my flight. I was able to talk to him and asked if he was in Kelowna watching Tij Iginla play. He was and so we talked briefly about Tij and Joe Iginla. I asked if they may draft Tij with all the pressure of being in the same organization his dad was such a big figure in and he told a story of how a few years back they actually targeted Adam Lowry and decided not to take him because Dave Lowry was in the organization. He eluded this to be a mistake. He then said he would fire Jarome if he had to to get his son in the organization lol. It was in humor but I do believe they would draft him if possible.

When Johnny & Chucky left, there was absolutely no scenario where the team stayed a cup contender. Anyone who thought otherwise (myself included) was kidding themselves.

Delaying the tank and trying to stay competitive was a big mistake and will only hurt this team long term.

Missed the game, looks like that was the wise decision. Can I still make fun of the oilers for losing to the Sharks?

He's a bad coach. He's Dallas Eakins 2.0. Takes what worked for him and lower levels (at least Eakins wasd good in the AHL) and applies it to the NHL. Then it doesn't work and he's got nothing.
I can’t judge a coach who was hired because Sutter is laughing at the ranch hauling in the dough. He wasn’t chosen on his coaching abilities he was just an easy cheap hire.

I have no doubt some GMs see Conroy and fresh meat and maybe a little rushed, and want to take advantage of him.
As usual, people take one throw away line out of context, especially in the same breath he confirmed that "keep all players" wasnt going to happen. And people get "outraged".

For the record, I don't think the coaching staff is making adjustments in game anywhere near they did the last two years.

The Flames got jobbed be the refs yesterday but today came out loose and unprepared.

That's coaching staff and the on ice leadership group, which themselves have been pretty ineffective.

Especially when they won't be a playoff team for at least 3-4 seasons now.

It's great voicing all those things with hindsight. You also thought that Huska was a moron for starting Vladar mid-week.

As for not playing Huberdeau in the last minute, I'm sure you would've been just as unhappy had he played and the Flames lost.

Blaming everything on the coach is just looking for an easy fix. At some point the players need to perform. For the most part they were the better team tonight, and the disallowed goal, followed by a couple of own goals really sunk the ship.

The team is missing Gilbert, because the 3rd pairing of DeSimone - Oesterle is an AHL level pairing, and keeps getting exposed.

You can make fun of the Oilers at any time, at any place. I think it is a rule.

I am upset with mushy middle garbage. If you're going to tank, tank. If you're going to compete, compete. Winning 6 out of 8 and then losing to the league's worst team without half its roster and superstar rookie is unacceptable.

Gosh, it's almost as if the forum, rather than having one collective mind, is made up of many different users with differing opinions.

I don't remember hearing anyone saying "all the problems of this team are down to the coach". But I do believe people think he's just as mediocre as the rest of the on ice personnel.

That’s very refreshing to hear. If he’s the best player available where you draft, you should absolutely take him. The fact that it would be an amazing story for the Iginla family and for flames fans would be a bonus. I would love for the flames to somehow get another first round pick within the top 20… right now, getting a first round pick from New Jersey or Arizona in a Hanifin trade might be the best chance at that. Using that pick on Tij Iginla would be amazing if everything worked out that way.
