Nice to see Zary pickup a couple, his puck protection is just elite.

His stats as a Flame are nothing special but for whatever reason he seems to get enough goal support to have a solid winning record when he starts.

Yeah, memories of winning fastest skater and losing the accuracy shooting competition to a Calgary Flame should really keep them warm.

84 point pace. I’ve always kind of felt if they could get to a 90 point pace it means playoffs are a real possibility.

So moving in the right direction.

I'm mixed if it's the right direction or not.

It's good for the young players on this roster who would grow from exposure to a playoff race and, in the unlikely event the Flames get into the dance, a couple of weeks of exciting hockey.

But it's bad for just about everything else.

I'll cheer and enjoy a couple of weeks of playoff hockey if they're so fortunate, but I shudder at the implications (draft position, temptation to not trade assets, etc.).

Hopefully the Flames can do some tidy business in advance of the TDL and move their UFAs, and I can enjoy the hockey down the stretch guilt-free.

Vladar is scrappy. He seems to do enough to win. End of the day I’d rather have wins than a nice GAA or save %.

Ultimately that’s the only stat that matters.

Getting wins because the team in front of you outscores your poor play doesn't seem like a very sustainable way to play, especially when the team in front of you is mediocre.

It might work this year for Georgiev because of how good Colorado is, but ultimately I think you want you goalie to actually be good and play well if you want long term success.

I’m torn as well.

It would be good to get younger. But Lindholm and Hanifin aren’t that old. I can see getting rid of Tanev. But I think I’d still try and keep Lindy and/or Hanifin if we could. I get you want to move up in the draft. But if you look at past history it’s a complete crapshoot.

If I were Conroy I would get what I could for Tanev. I think we could partially absorb his loss with defensemen from the wranglers.

I’d seriously shop Markstrom because goaltending is where we have the most depth and I think he could be our biggest poker chip because he’s playing so well. Wolf needs to start playing on the big team as well and Vladar is good enough to win games. Could save a lot of capspace with this move.

I’d take another run at resigning Hanifin because he’s young and Lindholm because he might be our best all around player. If they are adament about not resigning I would dump them at the trade deadline. We’d have to get some functional players back though. If we lose both Tanev and Hanifin I don’t think we could absorb that internally. Might be able to absorb the loss of Lindholm although the lines would be all messed up again.

No matter what happens it’ll be an interesting next couple of months. I have no idea what is going to happen. The team is fun to watch. Maybe they will defy the odds and make the playoffs as well. Kind of like Nashville last year. I know not the best for the draft. But great experience for the young players and good for the culture of the organization.

Sell Sell Sell. Recent results be damned.

Lindholm/Markstrom/Hanifin/Tanev are not a core to win a cup. Time to rejig the franchise and move on.

Totally agree. I am cherry picking here a bit, but:

- points pace since our bad 2-7-1 start is .607
- if that continues, we could get to 92 points
- top wild card team currently (Preds) is at 90 point pace

Conclusion? Playoffs very possible, IMO

(thanks in big part due on what may be a lower than usual threshold to get in)

think making timely saves impacts things too. easier to score when the you have a lead and the other team is pressing. harder to score when you're down a goal and the opponent can manage the puck

Good on them for not rolling over but pushing for the playoffs likely means the team doesn't sell on Hanifin, Lindholm and Tanev. It would be really awful as this group isn't going to knock off the heavyweights and likely will lead to another situation where quality players are lost for nothing.

If everything trends forward as per what the teams in the race have been doing 91 to 92 points would get you in.

There are a lot of teams doing what the Flames have been doing. Win one or two then lose one or two. No big streaks. Seems to be a lot of parity.
