Yikes, pretty lame duck return. We should be doing everything possible (even retaining salary) to maximize returns on our UFAs. This was a whiff for Conroy.

I would just keep him if that's the value. How is that value not available at deadline?

Conroy getting picked off in a big way.

Hopefully there’s another awesome deal cooking that requires taking on cap space. That’s gotta be it right?

Wish the 3rd was either this year or next, but I guess that's the market value for a 3rd pairing guy making $4M per year.

The clip the other day with Weegar telling him about being on ice for goals was very telling in my opinion
In a league where most teams are tight to the cap, Cap space saved IS ALWAYS an asset in a trade.

I get that the Canucks want toughness, but Zadorov can also be very flat footed. I don't think this is a good move for them.

Fantasy GM values aren't real life values. Learned that over the many many years of participating in fan forum trade conversations.

Would I have wanted something more? Sure. That's doesn't reflect reality though.

Hopefully, Connie is not trying to free up cap space for a big ticket item.
Random internet rumors will do that

Then the Canucks never saw Zadorov fight.

My guess is Conroy was not allowed to retain salary, or plans on retaining salary for one of our other trades (Hanifin, Lindholm), and this really hampered the trade value.

Only eyebrow raise is why now vs wait for the deadline.

I'm pretty sure Conroy isn't turning down better offers so I guess this is the best there was.

If we're being honest here he's a number 5 defensman on an average team. By name recognition he seems more "famous" than his position on the depth chart should allow.

Pretty meh trade.

But aside from his fan favorite status he's a pretty meh player.

Huge positive. The winning lately hasn't fooled Conroy into trying to hold fast.

This is a good signal that he knows this team is not good enough.

I'm no big city GM but that does seem underwhelming. I was expecting him to fetch at least a 2nd.

For a 2026 3rd rounder too.

This is a bad return. Horrible? No. But it's bad.

If the Flames somehow don't take any cap back, I'm fine with it. It allows quite a bit of flexibility for the more important trades.
