When Mangiapane didn't score on an OT breakaway from the far blueline I kinda figured the hockey gods weren't going to give us the win on the coin toss. But the team was playing with a lot of jam there at the end and showing up for each other, which bodes well. They'll be chasing a wildcard spot all season methinks.

The same blunders Tanev and Hanifin are making now are the same ones Zadorov was making earlier.

Things change over a year, and I'd wager this is hardly the first time an agent has thought their client should be played higher/given more TOI
Also it's zadorov's call and he seems to like Calgary a lot.

Justin watching 3 on 3 I think the perfect solution is already in the NBA. Don't allow over and back (can't reverse the puck across centre back to your half). I think taking it behind the offensive blue line is fine, but what gives the players too much comfort and a total reset is going back behind the centre line.
You can take it outside the blue line but you gotta be prepared to do something creative fast before your players get caught offside. I've studied this after watching many OT's and I think it'd be the perfect rule to stimulate action.

Agreed. When he successfully deked there but it bounced wide I thought "it's going to be one of those nights I guess"
Toronto has got quite the horseshoes, and I don't use that word lightly nor often.

It is automatic. Either the 3 officials in the ice weren’t competent enough to track 6 players, or they didn’t care.

I just don't understand what our system is. We are absolutley terrible at managing the puck at both our blue line and the opposing blue line...that can't be by design.
I understand Sutter was obsessed with puck management and never making a mistake, but under Huska it seems like we've abandoned any sense of simple play and we are just running around doing stuff.
Would love to hear Huska say what he wants he team to do, because this sure can't be it.

That’s fine.
Even more reason to sell Tanev over the other two since he’s older and slowing.
Zadorov brings more than Hanifin. He’s playing with the weaker D partners but still manages to make offensive contributions as well.

I'm all for trading Tanev. I'm just saying the ridiculous overreacting after a game. He had a good game you don't base your decision off 1 game.

Last year, Phillips was tearing up the AHL and Sutter barely gave him a sniff with the big club. It looks like any or all of Phillips, Zary, Pospisil, Solvyov, and possibly Wolf could have been called up and contributed way more than the plugs Sutter chose to play. It was definitely time for him to return to his farm and stop messing up the Flames’ farm.

Fwiw I think Tanev’s level dropped last year. Of course team has been worse and that makes defender’s job harder. But we’ve received good value for his contract and the time is right imo.

It's really not surprising based on how he plays he game. The body would eventually give out.
His skating looks to have slowed down as well.

I was watching OT the other night in the WHL, and it was very obvious that they should implement that rule. I would agree it would improve the entertainment value at any level.

was at the game and the Flames tried their best early on to give the game away and after the 4-1 goal i predicted a 5-4 win but....
you could see them getting better as the game went on and they should have won.
on to the next one, GFG!

Yep, it's so obvious when you watch the OT strategy. Go in hard, if nothing pans out, don't give up possession, instead circle back to your zone and try again.
That is literally what ruins 3 on 3 OT and every team does it (except Kadri). You can leave the zone to try again, but you ain't going past centre. It's so perfect that the NHL will never do it or even try it on any level.

Sounds to me more like Conny probably said that. Just not on Twitter. And by not wanting to extend him.

The thing that still sticks out to me the most about this game is Huberdeau with game on his stick all alone, two feet in front of the Leaf's goal in final minute of the 3rd... and he forces a pass to Lindholm who was very clearly in "ounce on the rebound" mode and not expecting a pass at all.
Some people want to be the guy. Other people just want someone else to be the guy.
