Maybe it has something to do with how the hearings go and wether or not Mangiapane sounded sincere and apologetic? Trying to rationalize the discrepancies in suspensions.

But should it though?

"I'm really sorry for murdering those 30 children, I didnt mean it, I had a bad day, my stock portfolio was performing poorly and then the sun got in my eyes...it was a collection of events."

- "He's not really a bad guy...let him off with a slap on the wrists! He invited us to a BBQ next week!"

Like...the punishment should be a bit more objective than that.

Do not question the NHL Wheel of Justice. Simply be embraced by its gaze.

Calgary will have a great chance to score next game, but no Mangiapane to finish. Meanwhile Seattle will miss the playoffs by 1 point to Nashville. They'll be so happy!

Oh well. Just bring another guy up from the Wranglers. None of the Flames forwards are good enough that it matters. Just plug the next guy in.

Yeah, I suspect Mangiapane told them he was trying to shove the Kraken and while that was illegal the way he did it, he lost his balance and ended up hitting his head/neck. I buy that.

I imagine Benn was a repeat offender as well, plus if you watch that video, he repeats the action a few times.

1 Game is ridiculous. I was prepared to accept 4 which I thought would have been fair.

That was way worse than Andersson's hit.
Dude got the equivalent of 95 cents on the big wheel.

Must have something to do with the parallax view as it wasn’t the throat area that was cross checked but the ankles!

another season of the wheel of justice then. DoPS just has zero consistency, it's impossible to take that department serious.
One was an open ice hit to the head at speed that resulted in a fairly major concussion. The other was an extra shot that wasn't especially hard and only partially hit the head.

Two entirely separate plays, levels of risk, and injuries to the opposing player.

What does the andersson suspension have to do with this one? Other than the team they play for, the two plays have nothing in common.

Not sure why everyone is so shocked - it was a stupid play, and he'll miss 2 games for it. But it wasn't particularly malicious. Benn's was an intent to injure, Mangiapane's was not.
