That goal Matt scored reminded me of Cammalleri. Damn when he wanted to score get out of the way give me the puck.

There was a little Joey Mullen in there too. This kid is gonna be good and sending him down gives him playing time , keeps him confident.

This guy is too smart to let being sent down get to him . He's a team player through and through and I look forward to watching him develop intonation solid solid player

That's the player he reminds me of too. Trigger man.

Would like to see him do that Ovie one timer thing from the right circle.

I dunno, probably a bit like how I can pot some goals in division 12 beer league, but get me up to division 9 and I'm just not showing my razzle dazzle cutting to the middle anymore.

I've been on the ice with some former Junior A plugs who just score at will against "normal" people. The NHL to AHL difference is huge.

It's the same with Wolf.

It's nice to think if he got permanently called up he would dominate or he would have carried the team to the playoffs last season but it's not a given. And the game he did get to play was meaningless to both teams.

I hope he does dominate but I expect him to have his rough starts getting adjusted. Especially if the team plays in front of him like they have in front of their other goalies.

Thing with Wolf is that this is his third season killing it in the AHL. I personally don't believe the Flames will fully commit to a rebuild until they get an idea of how they might do with him in net.

That's still the AHL and not the NHL.

That's not the point I'm trying to make.

I'm all for trading Vladar and calling him up. It's that the NHL and AHL are two different levels and that you shouldn't assume a player will have the same success immediately when he goes a level higher.

And it shouldn't be all too surprising when you see Coranato score a goal like that when going a level down. He could probably do that against NHL teams with weaker defense but a team who is decent probably doesn't give him that time and space.

Not arguing with any of this.

Difference between the two players is that Coronato can still learn a lot in the AHL. He has played 12 pro hockey games.

Wolf not so much. He is just being stashed there at this point.

Watch the replay again and watch the defensive play after he gets past the blueline. Three players watching him skate in the slot, not one touches him or attempts to go after him. That kind of stuff very rarely happens in the NHL. Just a lot better defensive coverage. I'm glad he scored and I really hope he lights it up and is back with the big club soon, but he won't get chances like that in the NHL.

I dont know if there is pro or con being a goalie for the current version of the Flames. It can’t be that great.

We're debating entirely different topics and this will go nowhere.

I'm not arguing whether or not he's ready. It's how much better a player can look playing a level down.

I remain convinced that the only thing he's gaining from playing in the AHL is muscle memory tuned to the skill and speed of the AHL.

Pospisil and Zary #1 and #2 respectively in Corsi on the Flames. Small sample size, to be sure. But can this youth movement continue?

Mangiapane, Backlund and Coleman are #3, #4, and #5 respectively.

Lindholm, Huberdeau and Dube are #17, #19 and #21 respectively.

Corsi is becoming one of the dumbest advanced stats in the game.

Yes, thanks for replies pointing out the disparity in league difficulty. That much is easy to see.

I mean putting a high quality shot on net that goes in.

He was struggling to do basic things before going down. Then, suddenly, he could again.

I think it shows the mental hurdle that exists and feeling like you're too good for a league vs not being sure of yourself. Reflects in the quality & accuracy of those plays/passes/shots.

Nah, it's just a tougher leauge to do that stuff. "then suddenly" is literally a massive drop in who he's playing against
