No, FanIn80. The only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved dino7c I call him Gamblor, and it's time to snatch this poster from his neon claws!

You compared gambling to car companies and telecom companies. Don't you think they're making money too? And they still roll their ads as well.
Gambling can be bad, but it's not due to the fact that they're making money off you. In reality a lot of them are actually losing money, due, in part, to these insatiable advertising budgets.

Just be happy someone is paying the bills or we wouldn't be watching hockey
Though some of you seem to hate it

Spoken like John Bean. What a silly take with no substance at all. Do you seriously believe that hockey would fail without alcohol and gambling ads?
In the words of David Bazan: "All of the experts say you ought to start them young. That way they'll naturally love the taste of corporate c**."

Remind me, how many years was it that the Saturday night show was called ‘Molson Hockey Night in Canada’?
Breweries have been major sponsors of televised sports pretty much since TV began. No, they wouldn't fail without them, but those ads have paid a lot of players' salaries over the years.
The gambling ads are ridiculous at the moment, as butterfly points out, because the companies are burning through cash trying to grab market share. It's like the dot-com boom: Google and Amazon made fortunes, but dozens of their competitors went bust. (Does anyone remember AskJeeves?) Most of these gambling businesses will end up out of business… but in the meantime we have to put up with the incredible volume of hype.
Or else, you know, not put up with it. I watched very little hockey on TV last season, partly because it got so annoying. As a former blackjack dealer who would not bet $5 that I am alive, I am 100% the wrong target to promote gambling to. Seems I'm not the only one.

I said "somebody" I don't really care who since I don't watch intermissions or commercials anyway.
Gambling is obviously the highest bidder at the moment

At least (some of) the beer commercials were entertaining. These gambling commercials have the production value and entertainment level of a banner ad on a website from the 2000s.

I don’t notice that much as I rarely get to start watching games on time
Sometimes, since I get busy with things outside the Flames, I take a bit of extra time and start watching a recording of the game. Sometimes later on, sometimes just about 30 minutes after it starts
When commercial come, 3 clicks and I’m immediately back to the game
By the end, you’re basically caught up. And you’ve used 30 minutes to get stuff done
You can’t really look at game threads, but they are sometimes .. well, let’s say not for the faint of heart anyhow
When I do watch in real time, I just ignore them and think about something else. Anybody who has had young kids should have this skill because it’s really not possible to listen to every single thing they say
If you’re an adult who still drinks chocolate milk, you’ve got this

I think it's hilarious we can't promote cigs, vapes or weed in advertisements because of "the children", but go ahead and use a bunch of hockey heroes like McD and Gretzky to advertise yet another addictive vice. Hilarious.
Rogers is such a trash company from top to bottom. Makes me proud to know I use alternate viewing sources so I don't give them a penny of my income.

Tradition on CalPuck that we get angry about the commercials. Used to be Panago every commercial break or Telus or whatever. There are going to be commercials - and they are going to annoy you after you see them 10 times a games for 5 months.
Gambling isn't great. But look at the bright side - maybe they'll come up with a pill to stop gambling addiction so we can have competing gambling/pharma ads like we do now with fast food and Ozempic.

Agreed, it's absolute garbage and almost comical. NHL just can't figure out how to market their own product and so we get stuck with these scummy adverts because they pay the most bucks. Considering how great the on-ice product is in the NHL, it's honestly sickening to see them lean so heavily into this gambling BS for quick bucks. Surely they can think of a better way to grow the game.
This annoys me a ton and I'm just a single guy with a girlfriend, can't imagine how frustrated I'd be having to explain the in-game odds and spreads to my kids from all 14 gambling app ads instead of just enjoying the game.

I would vote for Hitler if we had banning of gambling ads, digital ad boards, and more consumer protections.

I would consider voting for Hitler at this point, because he's dead and can't do any more damage. Live politicians are dangerous that way.

I’m far from a history buff but I don’t recall hitler being super into elections and democracy. I doubt anyone is voting for him anytime soon, dead or alive.
But if you’re in Canada, the closest you’ll get is by voting conservative in the next election.

How about voting for the Liberal who openly said how much he admires China for its dictatorship?
