  • We definitely won the goalie battle tonight.
  • xG: WPG 3.44 - 2.66 CGY
  • Mangiapane had himself a game.
  • I really liked Kadri at the start, but he kind of faded as the game went on.
  • Sharangovich is solid. I thought a lot of the rush chances the line had, were thanks to his plays.
  • Hanifin with a bit of rust he needs to work off
  • Lindholm had a quietly great game defensively until the goal. He was physical, he had to kill to Backlund penalties as the main guy on the PK. He was 21-4 in the faceoff dot! He found Andersson with a good pass on the PK, and a lot more. I can be hard on the guy, but that was great to see.
  • Coronato is still very raw. He looked a little lost defensively at times, but made some good plays off the rush.
  • Zadorov was a beauty, great hits, and good overall play. He made me notice him in a good way a lot tonight.

They started the season 3-0-0 last year, defeating the 2022 Stanley Cup champs, the Oilers, and the 2023 Stanley Cup champions.

Hopefully that goal builds some confidence for the Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane line, quiet for the night but come through clutch and then showed good hustle on the empty net goal too.

Need to clean up the defensive zone but nice to see them finish the chances they had

Hooked from behind on a partial breakaway. Should have been an automatic goal.

Not that it mattered, except for individual stats.

Mangy doesn't get a chance to get it Lindy if it wasn't for Huberdeau. And Huberdeau literally outskates the defender from a good meter behind, so again Mangiapane doesn't get a look if not for Huberdeau.

That was the clutch scoring we were missing last year.

Yeah, if you look at their stat line at the end of the night:

Huberdeau: 2A
Mangiapane: 2G, 1A
Lindholm: 1G, 2A

...and they really weren't good at even strength until Huska got them on the ice against an exhausted Jets line.

Interesting to see that Huska IS double shifting Huberdeau, Kadri, and Lindholm at times. He's putting them out together for extra shifts throughout the game.
