Couldn't find the player card for him but his defensive impact seems to be a bit overblown.
I think Lindholm is a good defensive zone player. I don't think he's great on zone exits or puck retrievals (nothing but eye test), and I think Chucky did a lot of that heavy lifting during Lindholm's 2nd place Selke finish.

Lindholm was definitely the 3rd player on his line that season.

As far as I know the Flames are still stuck on their 8.2m offer.

Personally I think that's too high

I'm trying to figure out how Lindholm values himself over 9 million. I don't really see what he can point to. Every comparable center is in the mid 8s. He thinks he's Brayden Point?

I'm still trying to figure out how they skipped over the 7s, and how they didn't immediately say "6 years max" before the negotiations.

I'd rather throw this money at a different player: Nylander, Guentzel, Stamkos(short term), Reinhart, Marchassault(short term).

Spend less on one of: Novak, Stephenson, Duchene, Arvidsson, Debrusk, Tarasenko, Monahan, Duclair.

Or keep the cap space and use it when a team is capped out and needs to move a good player(ex: Fiala, Bjorkstrand).

I thought this was a necro-bump or something. I thought both of these guys were trade bait and now they're signed long-term? These contracts won't age well.

It really feels like teams are getting better and better at staying tight lipped and a lot of actual leaks are just agents posturing with media.

Salary ranges can be guessed a lot easier now due to pretty distinct formulas based on points. So the new insider thing is to guess a range and then hedge a bet on when/whether it will be signed.

Funny how a good GM can convince stars who want to leave to stay. Big part of the job.
But Tre was not good enough in his job to convince his 2 most exciting players to stay.

Does Lindholm drive the rest of his line? Was anyone putting him in the conversation of the captancy this offseason? Is he a gamebreaker or someone that puts the team on his back when the game is on the line?

Pretty tough to pay someone 9mill + when the answer to these questions is no.

It's going to be hard to keep Lindholm's AAV $1.2mil over his agent's current ask?

Wasn't he the one who gave Matthews the new extension? Not saying Matthews wanted to leave but some Leaf fans thought so.

Hush, you. That’s not the same Treliving, obviously. The Treliving who was GM here was far too stupid ever to do anything right, and would never in a million years get another GM's job after the Flames deservedly fired him.

Don't go all twisted pretezel.
Just pointing out his brutal failure of not covincing #19 to stay.
Winnipeg made it happen...most teams do.
You cannot let this kind of player leave ever....pay him and make him your leader like Florida did.

Funny how a guy who had no first hand knowledge of what he is talking about can pretend he knows who or what a good GM is. Big part of self awareness.

But the myopic thing to do is take the actions of another organization and pretend they are the same. Regardless of whether those actions are actually good, or not.

He may simply feel he has the upper hand over Calgary and he wants what he wants. There us no law that says he needs to be reasonable in his comparisons.

Not saying this is the case, but I agree that Lindholm does not seem to be worth more than in the 8’s based on comparables.

All he had to do was erase the border between Canada and the U.S., so Tkachuk wouldn't be on the wrong side of it in case it gets closed again. Oh, and speed up global warming so Tkachuk could come to work at the Saddledome in flip-flops. Oh, and change the Canadian tax structure. Oh, and put Calgary on an ocean so he could hang out at the beach. Oh, and…

You're right. It's just a brutal failure that Treliving was not able to accomplish these trivially easy things.

Ever heard of this thing called ‘free agency’? You can't MAKE a player stay for his whole career if he doesn't want to stay.

Quote:

Tkachuk didn't want to be here. There were only a handful of teams he was willing to sign with long-term, as he very clearly stated. The Flames were not one of those teams.

If they had not traded him, they would have lost him by now as a UFA. Would you prefer that?
