What was the point of calling out posters that were defending Ovi in the past then?
"People like you" on my part was a direct response to you trying to shame or elicit responses that would shame(and pile on) posters that supported Ovi previously.
I acknowledge I was wrong to assume your political views based on the limited information. I just didn't appreciate what I saw as a shot against me, so I retaliated in kind. I don't mind discussing it over a beer, cheers.

I would personally be open to learning the potential justification for the invasion that is viewed as legitimate. The quotes from Putin published in western media were Trump level ridiculous. There are few justifications in my mind that warrant a full scale invasion of a neighbouring country but I’m open to changing my mind. Once the war starts, it will be near total war aside from nuclear weapons. No one country leaves a war with a clean conscience.

To this day, Ovechkin still has a picture of him and Putin as his Instagram profile picture. A dude who has accomplished so much in his career has decided that is the one that he wants to highlight. Not a good look.

Hopefully his passport isn't expiring anytime soon. Belarus recently had a ruling where its citizens needed to return to Belarus to get new passports and I could see Russia doing something like this also.
Also, his citizenship situation might result in him not re-signing in Calgary no matter what. The requirements are that if you want citizenship, you have to have spent half of the previous five years as a resident of the United States. Considering he's already done two years in Calgary, it could be a factor for him.

Why wouldn't he want to be a citizen of Canada instead?

Because he intends to live in Florida full-time when he’s done playing hockey.

Plus at this point he already has a U.S. green card. Like he mentioned, he's probably a few years away from U.S. citizenship. It's probably crucial for him to get the citizenship ASAP due to the passport issue I mentioned above.
For Canada, he'd need to first get permanent residency and then citizenship which would probably be at least 6-7 years away.

I am obviously not an immigration lawyer, but in light of him speaking out against Putin and the regime in general, and with the public knowledge of what tends to happen to people who speak out, I would assume that if Zadorov does have visa issues down the road, he could probably make a solid case for refugee status, no? I don't think it will come to that anyway. He has enough money now that he can purchase a visa in many other countries, and continue using a work visa in Canada if needed.
He probably has a variety of avenues open to him if Russia ever does try to take his passport.

It's funny how Canada can expedite the process when we want athletes for the Olympics though.

Eugene Zhen Wang is one, but I think there were others in the past.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/feds-u...veals-1.995247
Quote:
The Canadian Olympic Committee urged Immigration Minister Jason Kenney's office to fast-track the Canadian citizenship of a Chinese-born table tennis star in time for him to compete for Canada at the summer Games, a newly released document shows.
A short time later, Eugene Zhen Wang, the top-ranked table tennis player in North America, was a Canadian citizen.
Kenney's office said Wang qualified for something called "five-four citizenship." That refers to Section 5(4) of the Citizenship Act, which states that the minister may grant Canadian citizenship "to alleviate cases of special and unusual hardship or to reward services of an exceptional value to Canada."
The minister's office says "five-four citizenship" has been awarded roughly 500 times going back to 1977, often to athletes who have to travel around the world, and therefore do not meet the specific requirements for Canadian citizenship.
