If Honzek goes back to the WHL, he would be eligible to be called up to the Flames when the WHL season ends. (If it's during the regular season, I believe it would burn one of their post-deadline recalls.) His deal would only toll if he played 10 NHL regular season or playoff games.

A good camp for Honzek would be making it to the last round of cuts. Outside of an emergency callup I doubt he'll be seeing any NHL action this season. Watch for him on the Wranglers should the Giants miss the playoffs.

I’d love nothing more than for Honzek to come in absolutely kill his audition, but there’s little to no benefit unless he’s getting top 6 minutes.
I’m okay with him going back and playing the top role for the giants and wearing the C.

The Flames will be prioritize integrating youngsters like Pelletier, Coronato, Duehr and Wolf (maybe Zary) into the lineup.

Zary looked pretty ready last camp. He should be at this camp.

Depends who you listen to. Stienberg has said, and I suspect this is coming from those in the organization, on a number of occasions that Zary still needs time and isn’t considered close to pushing for a spot. If I’m not mistaken he wasn’t getting the ice time you would think he should be during the playoffs either.
That said, I do recall Sutter being complimentary of him last training camp.

I actually never thought much about Zary, but then he shows up to Flames' camps and just shines. I think this kid will be an NHL'er, and sooner rather than later. I think with the roster the way it is, it is unlikely he makes the team. However, a trade or two (or injury or two), and I do think he makes it.
He is full of piss and vinegar too. His compete rises to match the moment, and he is a solid all-around player. I would be surprised if people aren't penciling him into the roster halfway through training camp.
This team has a decent crop of young players that are starting to break-through again. It is nice to see.

Honzek is still pretty raw. I think another full season in the WHL, likely two. Should be lining up as the Giants' #1 C this season.

Because of his age, he can play in the AHL in 2024-25 without burning a year of his contract, so he'll almost-certainly only have one more year of junior unless he really struggles as a pro (which we hope won't happen).

For those who have the Athletic, Pronman's ranking of the top U23 players has Honzek in the mid-50s among players like Guenther, Clarke, Pinto, Guhle, Broberg, Perfetti, Eklund, Reichel, Zellweger and others.
Not bad company at all.
