At least Sutter didn't hide his nature. Hartley pretended to be Mr. Genial with the press and was an a-hole to the players behind the scenes.

BTW, his first year, Hartley had a lineup with Iggy, Cammaleri, Stempniak Tanguay, Hudler, Glencross, Gio, Jaybo, Stajan, young versions of TJ Brodie and Michael Backlund, and his goalie was Kipper. Not exactly "blown up".

He managed a .438 record. 2nd worst in Flames history.

Lol. Awesome roster. 35 year old Iggy had taken the team as far as he could. His long in the tooth buddies all had to go.

He had 31 games with Iggy, it was clear what was happening that year. That is the year they blew it up.

The only C you mention is Matt Stajan. You should’ve listed Roman Cervenka, best player not in the NHL too.

Look at the next year’s roster. A murderer’s row to complement team scoring leader Jiri Hudler’s 54 point including but not limited to Joe Colborne , Lance Bouma and David Jones

You’re trying to say they didn’t blow it up? What the heck kind of history rewrite is that?

Pretty laughable, my friend. Your Hartley hate is strong. Use it.

He's one of three flames coaches to get a contract extension and one of them is going to the hall of fame, the other is in the US Hockey hall of fame.

Great interview overall, but man that is super annoying. We all know people like that in real life, it's just a lack of self awareness and too much self importance and lack of interest in what the other person has to say.

"Yeah yeah yeah but what about this?!?!??!?" "OH oh you're saying this right? And here's where I wanna go with that, me!"

Yeah, not a Hartley fan overall, but silly stuff from that poster, for sure. Disnengenous to make a point.

Yeah, there were times I wish Kerr would just let him talk. I mean, it not a bad thing when you have a guest that might not run with things and I think it's one of the things that makes Kerr a good interviewer, but when you have Craig Conroy, you don't really need to do that.

Yeah I think he developed too much of that from his time on overtime back in the day, where that was needed.

Hartley gave us one very exciting season, but the style he coached was totally unsustainable in the modern NHL. It’s the same reason he’s so successful in the KHL.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a touch of ADHD in that equation, as well.

That roster is horrible for 2012/2012 by any standards those guys were all 30 plus in age and most were 25 to 35 point producers outside Iggy who only lead that particular group you mentioned with 67 pts. They were all on the downswing of thier careers .

That was a ####ty ####ty ####ty roster . A terrible roster

Not disingenuous at all. 31 games was the majority of that season. And the rest of the players weren’t old. They just sucked that year. It wasn’t a blow up year. They traded Iggy because he was 35, and he wanted to chase a cup, not because they were tanking.

They weren’t as great roster but they also weren’t a “second worst Flames record” roster. Compare that roster to Buffalo’s that year. Buffalo finished ahead of them. Same with Dallas.

You all can inform me why this terrific coach has not had a sniff of the NHL since. He was mentioned only once - in Montreal, and got beaten out by a guy who’d never coached pro or major junior hockey. As for the KHL, I suspect a-holes are tolerated a lot more there.

Having all your best players in their 30’s is a recipe for disaster. Was then and is now. Those old teams do not win in hockey. Tanguay - 32, Kipper - 35, Sarich - 34, Cammalleri - 30. Too old to compete.

Interesting that Craig mentioned having “really good” taken right before their pick a few times in his 12 years. Looks like the Flames were very close to picking Kaprisov.
