Maybe I just have too negative of an assessment of him, but I don't think he will ever be an nhler.

If he had not forced his way in, I think his career would have been grinding away in development leagues, getting passed by other prospects, and only getting called up for a handful of nhl games over his career.

By forcing his way in, he got a few seasons in the nhl with nhl pay before his draft position glow wore off and teams could see what he was developing into.

To me it is an example of why you always need to lookout for yourself first, and take as much as you can get as soon as you can get it. Making sacrifices for your employer is rarely ever returned.

Barring any character issues, how about something around Rooney for Zadina (with some retention)? Detroit gets out from the second year, we take on manageable risk with cap going up next year. Only question is do we have room in top 9.

Sounds like the Wings are going to terminate his contract?

If they mutually terminate the contract, I would be all for signing him to a short show-me deal for the right price. We're due for something to work out right. Maybe he can be our version of Florida's Bennett? Long shot, I know.

Lets sign Zadina and Patrick for league min deals and pretend that they were Flames draft picks.

His willingness to terminate his contract actually makes me much more interested as a reclamation project because there's no way he's going to get as good a deal from another team in terms of the money he'll make. So he'll be highly motivated to prove himself right by earning more money a year from now.

Would absolutely take a chance at 1x1.15.

I also think it's a good sign that he is willing to leave money on the table to try his luck somewhere else. He must at least be confident in himself.

since when can you terminate a contract. I thought you needed extenuating circumstances like in the E. Kane situation. breaking of team rules or behaviour unfit for the organization etc.

He breached his contract by notifying the team that he wouldn’t report to the AHL, so they mutually terminated it. Sounds like he would rather play in the KHL.

You can terminate a contract if both the player and the team agree to it.

Zadina has asked the Red Wings to terminate it so he can pursue other opportunities. It is up to the Red Wings whether they release him from the contract.

Pretty ballsy...talk about 'betting on yourself.'

Hell, I know nothing of this player, but displaying that kind of confidence? If it was a low-risk contract? I'd take a flyer.

Since forever. It's why you can't do anything but roll your eyes when Roberto Luongo cries declaring that his contract sucks. He and the Canucks could've mutually terminated it at any moment.

Exactly why I thought you needed a special circumstance. If these guys really wanted to play instead of being buried , they could terminate a hideous contract and try again with more reasonable salary expectation with a new club. Oh the almighty dollar and what she will do to a mans convictions.

I believe he had a khl offer on the table before he signed Detroit's last contract. Gotta feeling he’s bolting from nhl .

Well, that's not the same thing at all. Luongo's contract made him difficult to trade, but obviously the Canucks didn't want to lose him for nothing, and they did get their future starting goalie and a depth piece out of the trade they were eventually to make.

If they terminated, they would have gotten nothing.

Maybe he does go to the KHL or somewhere in Europe, but he apparently asked for a trade from the Wings first which makes me think he was willing to try somewhere else in the NHL first. If he just wanted to go to the KHL, couldn’t he just pull a Radulov?

Canucks still would've been hit with a recapture penalty

Why, to bring down our average draft rankings?
