But the League constantly wants to call games even. Each team gets the same amount of PPs. Leafs are always near the bottom of the league in PPOs every single year. Why? Because they don't commit a lot of penalties so the refs don't want to give the opposing team too many PPs. I'm liking Tree's approach. Bring in a bunch of #### disturbers. Get more PKOs but Leafs will also get more PPOs because of how Reffing works in this league. Plus it's a much more entertaining brand of hockey. I didn't even watch the last 3 months of Leafs hockey last year because the matchup was set and the games were just so boring. Nothing interesting ever happened. I'm all for bringing some juice back to this team.

Depth too, getting a couple 40 point guys like Bertuzzi and Domi and shipping out an 80 point guy like Nylander.

Domi is pretty tough for his size. He'll drop the gloves and stir things up after whistles, that's the type of "grit" he'll be providing.
I imagine Domi will be extra truculent as a Leaf. Keefe will probably have his hands full reigning him in.

There is no way Bertuzzi or Domi would sign one year sweet heart deals like that with the Flames.
Tre is unchained and signing everyone.
Being a GM of the Flames, Senators or Jets are probably the hardest managerial jobs in the league.

Yup, totally agree.

A team that needs to sign Matthew's and Nylander is just blowing dough on whoever in free agency
I'm sure that will turn out well
Enjoy "tHe WiZaRd" Toronto

They're both one year deals though. Nylander and Matthews new deal would begin when those contracts come off the books.

Solid signing, he should be able to provide for more depth scoring and a bit of feistiness that was lacking from the lineup against Florida. A one year deal isn't going to be costing too much as right now they have a one year window to make a push for the cup. They have their big guns for one year guaranteed and Tavares isn't getting any younger either way.

Don’t they need a significant upgrade on D and G, why are they signing middling third line guys. Doesn’t make sense to me. Probably an order of operations thing, I don’t mind Domi and Bertuzzi but they better have some significant cards to play still.

Well, if you go by what the rumours are saying, they're getting Hanifin and Vladar for Nylander, so they're just signing guys who can take his place, and/or fill in for the loss of Kerfoot, and Bunting.

Nice piece for the Leafs. Tre flipping the script with a strong day after a bad day on July 1.

40 point guys getting good ice time and PP time. They don’t move the needle much at the expense of one player with their production combined.

Isn't Bertuzzi and Domi replacing guys like O'Reilly and Bunting? I'm not sure that swings the meter one way or the other much.
I will say though that adding Klingberg, Bertuzzi and Domi who are all defensive liabilities made them worse in that regard. And goaltending still is kind of weak, never been a big Samsonov fan.

The guy is a defensive liability on a team that doesn't exactly have a strong blueline. It's an okay signing on the surface but the guy is very one dimensional.

The Leafs finally made progress on the defensive side and Treliving comes in with 3 signing with terrible defensive metrics.
I used to think Treliving was big on analytics but that seems false now and I think he's a GM who wants his team to play for corsi.
