I’m not sure what this post means or why it’s funny, but I’ll offer this
Both players determined that the Flames were not developing them to their potential, and bet on themselves.
Bennett got himself exactly the opportunity he needed, and got paid in a way the Flames weren’t going to pay him as a buried bottom 6 spare part
Phillips also took the 1 way deal in front of him
Good on them both.
Um… lol (?)

I like Darryl, and even I feel he should have given Phillips more of an opportunity last season. The years before that though, don't think Phillips warranted that much of an opportunity.
It's an odd choice for Phillips though. Does he really expect to beat out Ovechkin, Oshie, Mantha, Strome, Milano and Wilson for playing time in the top 9?
Caps also have prospects like Lapierre and McMichael pushing.
The Flames have a glaring hole on the RW for him with only Walker Duehr as the only right shot right winger.
Sure Love is there, but he's the assistant. It's Carbury's head on the line and he makes the calls.

I think a case can be made that a similar player in Milano had success in WSH, while disappointing here in training camp. It seems like a better fit for the player, and good luck to him.

Strome is a center — and I suspect Mantha will be traded before opening night. He's been all over the rumour mill this summer. Been a terrible fit in WSH.

Good luck to him.
But also relax to people fretting. His upside is probably something like Paul Byron and most likely outcome is something like Rocco Grimaldi, Seth Griffin, Nic Petan - small guys who get some NHL games in certain years but spend most of their time in the AHL putting up big points at that level.

Bennett didn't play 100 games with us. He played 400! in which he competed in maybe 10% of the games?
It's great that he brings in the playoffs, but what happens when you don't make it? Like if he played consistently through out the year earning his $4mil would it take until game 81 for the Panthers to make the playoffs? Derp.

He was a tiny prospect the first batch of those camps.
Once he showed he was a legit ahl player is when you can start counting the training camps.
Really his first real chance should have came last season but from the onset of camp it was decided that the AHL team would be the B group and regardless of what they did they would all be sent back. That was the message Sutter delivered.
Brad told us anyone who earns a spot will get it and they will make room while goimg out and adding Milano and Eakin to camp.
Plus the games they played where on the road so they are playing with other rookies vs usually a veteran team.
Solid chances for him for sure and other prospects. Can't even get proper preseason action.
The more I think about it the more I am happy Treliving is gone with Sutter as well.

I think he just choose eastern team, which has less physical game and even their AHL team travels less or shorter so less tiring.

Washington, with his AHL coach in their staff, is the best chance he will ever have to make the NHL, and that are offering a one way. No brainer.
I know he's a longshot, but feels like the organization burnt an asset for no reason. Sutter wanted to de facto act as GM and simply didn't play players he didn't want on the team, instead of doing his job and attempting to get the best out of them.

The easiest way to know if a player is an NHLer is if they're playing in the NHL.

I will be surprised if he makes the team. I guess this is probably the last stop before Europe. I will take the over at 2.5 on how many more threads will be made on this prospect in the next couple of years.
