Craig Button on TSN yesterday after the 1st round was talking about destinations for Erik Karlson and listed the Oilers as a top-5 potential. I guess San Jose will just go ahead and retain $10M for the honor of uniting Karlson and McDavid, as some ancient-astronaut theorists believe.

just heard Spector briefly on 590 in Toronto and he definitely comes off like he's more fan than reporter...very annoying.

also, he mentioned they would probably keep Foegele and potentially trade Ceci to free up more room.

Someone wants Ceci? I recall him being called the lowest IQ player in the league at one point.

I doubt teams would even give up future considerations for Ceci.

So the Oilers trade the two players that came up biggest for them in their game 6 victory over the Kings for - - - nothing!! LOL!!

My prediction is that Kostin and Yamamoto will score more goals on their new teams (wherever they end up), than "Future Considerations" will for the Oilers.

Just getting out of Edmonton will unlock their ability, especially when any opportunities for Oiler forwards are given to McDavid and Draisaitl once the puck hits the offensive zone.

Both those guys together for future considerations is hilarious considering the trade proposals that the Oilers media and fans were making where they were key parts to get back great players. They turned their 2017 1st and 3rd round into future considerations in 2023. Well done!

I recall a social media post by Staples I think (although possibly Spector) declaring within a year after he was drafted that Yamamoto had a chance to be the best player ever drafted at 22nd OV

(for anyone wondering Brian Trottier was a 22 OV pick)

Yup, Oilers media is just one of the many pieces that make up the No Good machine of epic failure.

You should really point that out to Spec on Twitter, after all, he’s “all about accountability”!!

Went to find it and found this Staples gem from last week

“There's a market for Yamamoto, say NHL insiders. But what can Oilers get back?”

Quote:
I can see Yamamoto doing well on a team in need of a useful two-way winger, one with some skill who can make plays with a young star forward, such as Connor Bedard in Chicago or Trevor Zegras in Anaheim.
Hahahaha. How does anyone’s brain put that out. He sucked with McDavid but he’ll be great with Bedard or Zegras, but then why would those teams acquire a player that couldn’t stick on the Oilers and put them with their star.

Yamamoto' s food will taste better today, air is cleaner.

The Oilers pulling their BS putting him on LTIR for cap considerations (undisclosed reasons) and his time there stunted any chance of growth, like so many players that may or may not have had a chance to become a better NHLer.

I'm thinking about 6x6, send 1 D down $3M in space fore 4 roster forwards, and don't carry any reserves until you have some cap space from IR.

This trade probably does enough that they can dress a roster, but without unexpected prospects emerging, the gulf between their top6/bottom6 and top4/bottom pair will be sizable. Nothing new.

Bouchard is unlikely to settle for $6.0 m on a long term deal. I expect it will be closer to 3 x $6.5 m. When Nurse signed his second contract, it was 2 x $3.2 m, coming off a 26-point season. That was a 4% cap hit. Bouchard just registered back-to-back +40-point seasons.

If the Oilers bridged Bouchard like they did Nurse when he came off back-to-back 40-point seasons, they would be paying him 2 x $5.75 m (=6.87% cap-hit). I believe this is the bottom end of any deal for him.

Fair but the effect is the same, they bury one of their cheaper contracts on D, and have in the range of $3M for 4 forward contracts.

What is crazy, and not surprising, is seeing the Oiler fans going from Yamamoto being a key piece in the Konecny deal to now saying how great of a move it was by Holland to get rid of him because he cost too much.

It blows the mind how they are so unwilling to criticize anything the organization does. Although I guess they take their cue from the soft as butter media there.
