The word, as defined by the dictionary, can be used in exactly the context some are advocating for.
This is like homeless has become less acceptable in favour of "unhoused"... Homeless is a perfect descriptor for someone that is without a home (regardless of the context or circumstance)... It just screams of trying to create problems for the sake of creating problems.
I believe if the definition of a word can be used accurately within the right context, than that word should be used. This is why the previous arguments of the N-word or "Jew" don't hold water; those words only exist as disparaging terms meant to insult, hurt or make someone out as less than. ###### existed as a word with a specific definition, only to be applied medically and eventually co-opted as a slur.

Weird crusade to try and bring back a word that can upset people to that extent.

Similar to what happened to me. I have an autistic cousin and when I was 13 or 14 I said something was ######ed in front of my aunt. I don’t think I’ve used it since seeing the hurt on her face.
I don’t personally take offence at the term, and people are generally free to use whatever words they want. But I do have some judgement towards those who use it, knowing it causes hurt to others, and what value do you really get from it on your end?

what about the end of a song? it is a very common musical term for slowing down a song - especially at the end of a song.
personally, i don't have an issue with the word - and for the record, my brother (who is adopted) is FAS. his birth mom drank like a fish while pregnant. he's 52 years old now and probably at a grade 3 level of comprehension. he has workers that come stay with him every day to make sure he's eating properly, taking his meds, had a shower, brushed his teeth, etc.
we heard it all growing up and it honestly doesn't bother me. it doesn't really bother him either - i don't think he has the capacity to grasp the word's meaning though.

Is anyone saying you can’t use the word in terms of fire, or car engines, or the obvious times when it’s clearly meaning something else? No? Yeah I didn’t think so sheesh get a grip.
We all know the context that it’s ignorant to use it in. Some people will churlishly choose to continue using it in that manner because there are ignorant people in the world and progress isn’t linear. Those people can continue to do so, and polite society will look at them with the disdain they deserve. This isn’t the first time someone would choose to wear their ignorance like a badge of honour and it won’t be the last. Best of luck with that kids.

I found out recently albino is a negative term. A coworker has a kid with this condition and she taught me that these people have albinism and albino is now considered derogatory. The more you know…

An example of what. You said you believe that people are making up being offended. I just asked how you validate that this is true and not just you being wrong and out of touch.
Like did you work any groups of people who are neurodivergent or developmentally delayed or their families to ask what they thought? Like we had two examples of people with direct contacts who found the word offensive when used around them and one who didn’t. So how do you validate the made up offence.

There is room for the R word. It means to slow or impede progress. So, ironically, those that would like to (and do) use ######ed as a derogatory term are, themselves, the ######s
Jokes aside it’s a bad word that does a better job of cutting down people around and making you look like a fool than it does cutting down its intended target and just don’t use it.

Wait, so the correct terminology for the condition of lacking pigment is albinism, but a person (or animal) lacking pigment (aka, someone with albinism) can't be referred to as albino?

Seems kinda obvious that using that word as a weapon against anyone, special or otherwise, is wrong.
On the other hand, there aren’t many phrases that’ll cause someone who’s in the wrong to take a hard look at their behaviour like “are you ####ing (fill in the blank)?”
For example:
“We’re gonna drive 5,000km across country in vehicles that get 8 mpg that we already can’t afford to keep fuelled to blockade the Ambassador Bridge with bouncy castles and our own wives and children until the democratically elected head of the government steps down!”
Maybe coulda done with a few more folks asking the question.
Because alternative curses are fun and cute, but that’s just it. They’re dismissable.
You can’t yadda yadda an R-cusation like that. Especially knowing that it’s one of the few words most people universally agree you can’t (or at least shouldn’t) use.
But no river is so long as to not contain a bend.
