Bringing in a former #1 pick who struggled and then overcame to become an MVP seems like a no brainer for a team drafting the next superstar and having 35 million in free cap

They need someone to play with Bedard - not great development to throw in an elite talent to play with scrubs and other rookies. And they can just flip Hall at the deadline when there will be lots of suitors and his cap hit is easy to swallow.

"Taylor, what was the secret to your success?"

-- "I got traded out of Edmonton."

"What else?"

-- "That's it."

"Oh, okay. Well, I guess we don't need you anymore. Thanks."

This is a bit crazy how if you have cap space you can get a guy like Hall for nothing but cap. Pretty easy deal for Chicago to make. Who's a UFA this summer that you can sign for this money and term who's better than Hall?

Has to sting a bit for Hall who signed a lower AAV with Boston so he could stay.

The Monahan + 1st for cap space becomes more and more infuriating when deals like this happen.

That is what they most certainly will do. And they are still a long way from the floor

Hall is far more valuable than Monahan was at the time of his trade. The value for Chicago will be what they get for Hall when they flip him, not the value of the space.

Also, prices fluctuate, based on supply and demand - unfortunately, we needed to move Monahan right when the value of cap space was at its biggest premium.

But yes, with the failure of the team this year, it makes the Monahan trade taste pretty bitter.

Zero chance they do this. They got Hall to play with Bedard.

Maybe next year at the deadline.

He was playing 15 minutes third line with 2nd PP duties.

He goes to 20 minutes with Bedard playing 1st PP time.

He's feeing a sense of rejuvenation.

Or maybe this year at the deadline. But they will trade him him. So no, not zero chance (unless you were interpreting my comment as being that they would be flipping him immediately - which I did not say)

Hall spent a bunch of time playing huge meaningless minutes in his early 20’s I would think he wants to be in a position to win which is why he stayed in Boston in the first place.

I doubt this year, as he'll still have a year left.

But their motivation for getting him is to have a decent linemate for Bedard.

it was an obvious move the moment they won the lottery.

But you are correct, I did think you meant right away. They could easily move him later if it suited their purposes.

Or, I guess, if someone makes an offer they cannot refuse. So, Zero was a bit too much I guess LOL. I think I just meant the motivation is to keep him for Bedard. The Hawks have tons of picks, but needed a decent linemate for Bedard.

Does seem weird. But I think they want Bedard to have some decent players to play with.

And the rumour of getting Foligno to stick around supports that. He is a leader and doesn't like it when players dick around with his teammates.

I can't stand the hawks, but this is sensible.

Boston, with the cap issues and Bergeron retiring are likely not much of a contender anymore. Still perhaps a decent team though.

But I expect that Hall wants ice time and 1st PP time. And he'll get that in spades with Chicago.

The year Kane and Toews joined Chicago they were competitive and in the playoffs a year later. Even those dummies in Edmonton were a playoff team in McDavid's second season. These really elite players can help a bad team get better fast. Even the Leafs in Mstthews first year were way better than expected getting to the playoffs.

But Chicago already had Keith, Seabrook, Sharp, Bolland etc.

Chicago has basically nothing but prospects and picks, so it'll take a few extra years to become competitive.
