Physically though, I don't think he has it anymore. Normally a guy 29 would be at his prime. His back issues seem to be a real problem though.

Yeah good for FVV and happy he gets paid.
But giving him $30M+ probably would have been a mistake.
The real mistake though was not moving him last year.

Yeah, for Houston that third year is manageable but not ideal, they've got Green and Sengun up for rookie extensions in that third year so if those two continue to develop well, those two plus FVV could be accounting for 70% of the cap alone. I'm sure they would have loved to have Fred potentially off the books at that point and had one more crack at a top-tier free agent before their rookies start getting extensions.
Despite the rising cap, I think that FVV on a 30% cap hit is an untradeable contract, except in a scenario where they give up assets to move him.
For the Raptors, it sucks to lose him mostly because he has a skillset that they really lack on the roster, particularly initiating the offense. Though Barnes and Siakam are both capable playmakers, both of them are better when they get to their spot before getting the ball. Schroeder is a 'meh' pickup. His defense will be nice, but he doesn't give them the spacing they would like in a lead guard. He had some overlap in OKC with Darko's time there so presumably there's enough familiarity for Darko to know what he's getting.
Phoenix has done what they needed to, Brown is a nice pickup for Indiana, but overall I don't think anyone has had a really stellar free agency so far, where they picked up a free agent that really elevates them to another level.

Yeah, I really don't know what direction the Raptors go. I don't think they should be getting better to take another run at it. One year of tanking can do them well to get a solid player through the draft.

Raptors should make a play for Lillard. I love that guy.

Lillard wants to win I see no reason why he would go to Toronto to repeat what is happening in Portland.
Wonder if he goes to the Nets for Simmons.

No disrespect but why would anyone wants Simmons? The guy is an established, certified bum. Totally never going to put effort in. Is Lillard still interested in his rap career? No chance he comes to Toronto.

Simmons has negative trade value
He’s almost 100% going to Miami

terrible timing from Lillard too, he's really ####ed the Blazers here ... they signed Jerami Grant to a ridiculous contract yesterday. If Lillard requests the trade earlier, they dodge that bullet and can just go full rebuild around Scoot and Sharpe. Now Lillard wants out and they'll still be saddled with Grant's anchor of a contract. Yikes.

It's even worse because Dame allegedly was pushing the Blazers to re-sign Grant. Maybe they would have either way, but now they are stuck so if he knew he was going to ask for this anyway he should have told them before FA so they didn't do something stupid like give Jerami Grant a terrible contract.

Apparently the third year for FVV is a team option. So essentially a two year contract for cap planning. Smart signing IMO.

Hadn't heard that before, but yeah on two years plus a team option, that's perfect for Houston.

Checking in on this thread. I've never been a fan of a "super team" until now and it truly feels weird after having Scrooge McDuck as an owner for decades.
It'll be an interesting year.

The new super teams won't be effective because of the inability to sign players and trade for them.
So someone from that starting group or two of them will have to log longer minutes to carry the bench.
The Warriors had some good bench players that produced, a guy like Livingston was a key piece to the bench.

The Suns shored up the bench incredibly well. Super teams still attract great talent for cheap

Yep they signed a bunch of decent players at league minimum.
Although we’ll see about calling the Suns a super team.

Didn't realize they signed Eric Gordon as well.
