I'm good with this choice. He's been paying his dues for a long time and has been interviewed for other GM openings, so its not like its just "let's hire a former player". He's qualified. I also think its a benefit that he's already well respected in the organization and city.

I always like Kirk Muller in his interviews and he seems like a smart guy. But the powerplay has been non existent since Johnny and Chucky left.
They need to find somebody else to run next seasons powerplay.
Also subbing in Pelletier and Coronato for Lucic and Ritchie would immediately improve on last years PP.

Dreger has only ONE source in the hockey world, his cousin Nonis.
Would not be surprising if what you say is true and Nonis is the AGM to Conroy.

I think this is the right hire and despite what people like Serivali have stated the Flames went about this the right way. Conroy was always in the pole position to land this job but Maloney wasn’t about to just gift this opportunity without truly seeing what else was out there. The organization can feel good that they have been spending the last 12 years developing someone they hoped to one day take the job.
Conroy has learned and mentored under Treliving for almost a decade so hopefully the work ethic and in on everything approach we constantly heard about Treliving remains. Conroy is a likeable guy and Iggy likely is coming in some capacity. The 04 nostalgia remains as even though Sutter is gone Conroy is now driving the bud. He has paid his dues and deserves this opportunity. Good news for Flames fans

No, no, no, it's totally different. These are Flames old guys, not Oilers old guys.

Love it! Just hoping Conny has enough autonomy to carry out what he envisions for the organization. Like someone said he's been around for years and can take all the mistakes that the organization made and use it for the future.

If he hires Huska as HC I will start the ire.

Only if you view life without complexity and intricacies.
It’s like when people think “rebuilding is a waste, look at the Oilers!”
Just because the Oilers did a thing poorly, doesn’t mean the thing is bad. E=NG, so if you’re afraid of doing something because the Oilers did it then you’re missing the hard science that “E=NG” proves. E=NG defines that any attempt at anything by E will be NG.
E could pour a dram of Bruichladdich Black Arts and it would be NG. If anyone else pours a Bruichladdich Black Arts, it’s magic.

I really want to see Love get some experience as an assistant coach first. The pressure is to win now and you are going to promote a guy that really doesn't have that much pro experience into this pressure cooker? As a matter of fact if I am Love I don't want the HC job, I would rather be the assistant first and avoid the ####storm that will hit the new HC if things go South. Then take over HC when ownership finally embraces rebuild/retool. I am just concerned you would be setting Love up to possibly ruin a bright future.

If that's the route the Flames want to go with Love he's going to go somewhere else. The Flames in general need to stop this over seasoning stuff that Treliving loved, let people in the organization, from prospects to management, show their worth with opportunities.

Or maybe Quenneville? Conroy did play for him for 5 seasons...

Kirk had some terrible power plays in Carolina and Montreal.
I think we need a whole new staff not because they aren't good people or coaches we just need a fresh start.

Thinking of bringing in Dennis Wideman and wondering what Gary will instruct the Refs to do if he joins?

Sidebar….is it slightly annoying or weird maybe that Dreger blends this important news in with other non news? “Busy week ahead…apart from Calgary deciding on its first GM in like a decade, Toronto will be starting its search”.

Huska has won a championship before as a head coach and has a ton of coaching experience. He was an assistant here under some pretty terrible coaches and one great coach who had the game pass him by. Hard to know where his contributions start and end. He has been credited with developing Razzy and Oliver though.
If you look at coaching records alone, he’s probably more qualified than Love.
Love is a two time AHL Coach of the Year but no championship on his resume. I’m kind of disappointed the Wranglers are out, I’ve lost some hope for Love and Wolf due to this. The results haven’t met the hype. Championships matter and both weren’t very good against CV.
I’m not sure there is that much to choose between them.
