He wants so badly to do coach's corner history lessons/rambles still that he tries to shoehorn it into his job wherever he can even though his job is to host.
Too bad he played an integral role in getting his partner canned, inadvertently scrapping the one role he was cut out for.

Wasn't there some kind of agreement where Strombo would be the host of HNIC and MacLean was going to be given Hometown Hockey?
Strangely enough, I think that role suits Ron the best. I didn't always care for the stories and topics for HH, but Ron could drone on about the fall of the Byzantine Empire while waxing poetry about some relation to Timmins or Campbell River.
The contract thing may have been true, but I also think MacLean has a lot of sway and likely wasn't happy being shuffled to the B show.

It's not just a Ronald thing, although he is the worst for it. Scott Oake, who seems like a likable guy in general, often says some really bizarre things and seems to make players awkward. Even Elliot Friedman back when he was doing more player interviews used to be really cringey.

I enjoy the idea of the panel & it could be great.
But while it's a nice concept, the right cast would make it a million times better.

The crazy thing is they've assembled the most rag tag group of misfits for the panel and are doing themselves a disservice by running with this bunch instead of grabbing any of the great available talent out there.
i.e. I don't know why Elliotte does so many different roles instead of just sticking to being an insider. Why is he providing analysis on games? It's clearly not his forte whereas discussing back end issues and speculation is where he shines.

Well that seems excessive. Just telling him to stay home would suffice.

I met Glenn Sather’s mom once. She was in the same old folks home as my grandma.
Even SHE never brought this up!!!

If ya'll wanted deep cuts when interviewing players, just get Nardwuar to do that. He's infinitely more entertaining to boot.

Its not even that.
Just...ask them real questions.
"What do you think about McDavid who is a thousand miles away and not playing tonight, much less in this actual game that we're covering...what about his season??"
Are you dressed as a hot dog? Its...its not Halloween or anything.
Just...focus on whats happening right in front of you. Anyone under 50 probably though Glen Sather was already dead.
This is 'Sports Journalism?'
Then I'm not sad that they're being fired by droves. If this is the best they can do, I'd fire them too.
I've met a lot of hockey journalists in my time and most of them are smart guys, this is BS fluff nonsense that should be put to an end.
I dont GAF where Sather's mom worked.
