If Lindholm is gone, you have to do a full rebuild.

Honestly, I'm happy that Lindholm and Backlund are signalling they want out. The more clear it is that our valuable assets (Hanifin, Toffoli, Backlund, Lindholm) won't resign the more likely it is that our GM, whomever that is, sells them this off season.
We have the parts to retool and build a young core to develop around. Ownership won't just let this happen though, so it'll have to be forced on us by players saying they won't sign here (as sad as I am to see them go).
We're never going to win if we throw big money and long term at aging players like Lindholm and Hanifin even if they did want to re-sign here.

Here are the teams this year sorted by their 5v5 goal rates:
Pretty crazy that a team with a positive 5v5 goal differential, that was eighth in goal scoring, could have been so frustrating overall. It comes down to
- Goaltending, especially early in games (as evidenced by Vladar's win rate despite underwhelming SV%)
- Powerplay
- Extra Time

Agreed. I think Lindy and Backs should be gone at the Entry Draft.
Backs and Lindholm signalling the way they are...the only key one left for me is Noah. If Hanifin has similar thoughts, this era is fully over.

No time like this summer to get a kings ransom for Backlund and Lindholm. Very reasonable contracts, highly productive players, and a chance to open up some spots for new talent.
That said, there must be some dressing room problems going on, either internally or with the coaching staff. There's just too much smoke.

I'd rather know they want out versus the Tkachuk and Johnny "I wanna stay" answers followed by bolting and screwing the team over.
I'm a big Lindholm fan and would be bummed he's gone. I'm not as much of a Backlund fan as many here.

If Lindholm doesn't plan to re-sign, Calgary needs to trade him at the deadline. They will get a huge haul. From a rival's perspective, Lindholm is the player on Calgary who teams worry about the most when playing them. Incredibly smart 2 way player.

Well, this certainly isn't very subtle from the players.

Pretty much most responses make it seem that there are locker room issues.

Sigh. Just trade Backs and Lindy before you lose them for nothing

No, not at the Deadline. At the NHL Entry Draft this Summer.
You don't go into next season facing a potential Gaudreau situation where you keep him because you're close to/in the playoffs.

This is probably the most open set of exit interviews I've seen from players on this team.

My read so far is that all of the players have been praising their teammates and a few have mentioned that they feel the group in place could do well and contend/do damage, which might mean they blame the coach for their lack of success.

I am glad a soaked in the push for the playoffs as much as possible. It really seems to me that we will have to wait a few years before being close again.

Good. Let these guys go to their Columbuses and finish their careers unceremoniously and in obscurity. Have fun being somewhere where you won't end up with team records and have your name celebrated and remembered long after you're gone (Backlund).
If they don't want to be Flames then that's fine with us. We'll take players who do.
There will be coaches like Sutter out there too. At least here, the fans and city will GAF.

No one should be surprised Backlund and Lindholm are leaning towards going somewhere else on their next deals.
