You insulted him directly, twice now, and added a drive-by insult on another user that hasn't even posted in this topic. I'd say you know a thing about "hilariously obsessed" but maybe you should grow up a little bit

It’s fun/funny mostly. Makes for good back and fourth banter (unless unhinged fans lose their cool. people seem to forgot this is all just for fun).
I understand Oiler fans hanging out here more than I understand the Flames fans who obsessively watch every Oilers game just to complain about the Oilers, tbh.

I think the posters like you probably didn’t live through the 80’s when Flames fans constantly had their hearts broken by the Oilers and the hatred between the two franchises was real. And a lifetime of having the media and Oiler fans telling you how great the Oilers are can do that to you. And to watch the Oilers luck into not one, but two generational players is pretty damn hard to stomach.

A BOA that requires line matching to try to shut down the Oilers top guys, a fully developed game plan. Should be fun.

The good thing is that the Oilers do not have the horses to compete with the top teams in the East, nor do I think they can get by the Avs. A couple more years and McDavid can take his “best player to never win anything” show to another city.

I watch any game that's on when I have the time. That includes Oiler games. And yes, I watch specifically to see them get beat. I actively cheer for the other team.
What Rejean said is true. I like your posts for the most part despite having blocked you from time to time due to your self righteous/assured posting style. Again, just some food for thought that others, generally significantly older lol, likely have a different life experience than you. And that's ok.
That being said, it is tough to watch the Oilers have a good season after years of getting breaks and draft picks. Then to have the media rub it in our faces at every turn. It just doesn't seem right to see that awful fanbase get rewarded after celebrating draft lottery after draft lottery. It's gross and makes the league look amateur IMO.

Forty years ago, not easy to hang on to obsessive hatred for that long so congratulations for that. It did feel more heated in the 80’s for me too but I think that’s because I was a kid.

Yeah, well I'm turning 58 today. Watched every Flames game available since attending the first 4 exhibition games in September of 1980 in the good old Corral. So a lifetime of listening to the leagues most entitled fanbase and media can turn a guy this way.

Fair enough. The Oilers haven’t been good in my lifetime so it’s definitely different. I have fun making fun of Oiler fans (and Jets fans, because they’re extra pathetic) but I don’t have the hate.
I still don’t understand watching their games, though. I just dislike everything about that team. If I’m not watching the Flames I’d rather watch good teams where I can just enjoy the hockey.

Even with those 2 players they still haven't won a Cup. In fact I would argue the Oilers have waisted the best years of McDavid. With a good team he would probably have a Cup or 2 under his belt by now.

I made the mistake of watching an Oilers/Bruins game this year. Jack Michael's harps we have a Stanley Cup Final preview here and I changed the channel.

I hate the oilers and mcdavid more than the average man. But I'd say this is pretty clearly his best season, and the oilers have at least made the playoffs so it is hard to say they've wasted it, yet.
They have been a horrible waste of a team. I think their goaltending isn't close to enough to last in the playoffs. But hard to impeach the level of production this player is putting up in the effort. He and draisaitl are dragging the rest of them kicking and screaming. Ekholm doesn't stink yet.
Sucks because they are a despicable group of unlikable twats.

It's definitely a bad look on the league as much as it is on the organization
NHL ####ed up not changing the lottery rules much sooner.
It should be easy for any self respecting fan to cheer against that team. They have no grace about being spoiled with an anomaly of 1st overalls that will never happen to one team in a short period ever again.
Having already experienced Gretzky, they shouldn't have seen another player like that for 100 years.
To add insult to injury they're slimy, criminal employing brats who don't employ a system that centers around team play, but caters to two guys.
It's like two Zavas and a bunch of second class citizens whose playing time gets eaten up by the former two. That's not how the game is traditionally played and in a lot of ways it disrespects the spirit of a team sport at its highest level.
It's become less so about the fact the team is based in Edmonton AB, it's the way they go about their business and boast incessantly that makes them unlikable.

That’s what does it for me. Being subjected to McDavid in every intermission of every other game is annoying enough. But to sit through 2-3 straight hours of the same fawning? Tough to stomach.

I agree that it is tough but at the same time I feel sorry for McDavid (weird right?) as he's wasting the prime years of his career playing for an organization that can't assemble a quality team behind him. Like, the goaltending and defense is shaky at best and is usually their downfall in the playoffs.

Regular season stats mean squat to a player if you can't get your team to the Finals. Year after year it's the same story and this year will be no different when the press announces this is the year they win the Cup. McDavid and his plus/minus is horrible and opposition teams in the playoffs will exploit his defensive weaknesses.

No, I’m talking about lucking in to Gretzky (his contract was won by Pocklington in a game of backgammon) in the late 70’s. I don’t even count Draisatl as a generational player. He’s more or less a powerplay specialist.
