Cap Friendly says his NMC was applicable to the last three seasons of his 6 year deal. Weird how Sportrac shows different.

It is pretty crazy how a beloved franchise player can get traded like that so suddenly. Especially when this has been an successful season for the Kings. But that just shows how much of a business the NHL is at the end of the day

Wonder if kings got another deal in the works. They also gained cap space with this deal.

Some people around here blame everything on goaltending this season. While it's one of the major problems, Kings are having similar issues. Their goalies are equally as bad as ours, but Kings can outscore their goaltending. If it was just Markstrom / Vladar, the fix would be easy. But it's more than that. Shot count does no matter if you are not creating enough high quality scoring chances.

If Vladar and Markstrom were both league average (not much to ask given Markstrom's salary) this season the Flames would comfortably hold a playoff spot today. It is without a doubt the Flames biggest issue this season.

My first thought was that the Kings sure did Quick dirty here, but then I looked at Quick's numbers this season. I was wrong, Quick did himself dirty. 3.50 GAA? Woof

Yeah not sure why there is surprise or outrage over Quick moving.

Fleury winning the Vezina, being traded and finding out on Twitter? Sure, outrage.

Unfortunately, the reality is if say, Kopitar or Doughty were playing AHL-level hockey, it would be easier to keep them as depth players than it is to keep Quick. There are only (for the most part) 2 spots on the roster for goalies. The question is, is playing for Columbus better than playing in the AHL?

Quick pissed about the deal.
Columbus probably has no interest in bringing him in.
Quick played for Sutter in LA and have a good book on each other.
Tofolli lucic and Lewis all ex kings on the roster
Our g is struggling
Would be acquiring a motivated player with a chip on his shoulder
Stranger things have happened.

Didn’t realize Quick was so bad this year. Makes sense that Columbus hold the bag and get a 1st from it given where they are. Though if I were LA and dangling a first they should have done better than Korpisolo. His numbers don’t look good enough.

No thanks, I would think Quick retires this summer...

He probably really liked the Kings chances within the west conference at a lengthy playoff run.

Quick is 37 years-old with a cap hit almost as high as Markstrom and is one of the few goalies with worse stats this season than Markstrom and Vladar.

Quick was born on the East coast.

I’m sure he just wanted to move closer to home, but not too close.

The thing is though maybe if they do he's ok with it and there's no hard feelings. Maybe the reason he's so pissed isn't so much that it's Columbus and that he would 'take one for the team'.

And if he says no maybe they still make the deal but doesn't involve Quick. It's not like Copley is some young stud and sending him back down or trading him would be a mistake.

Yeah I don't really understand the reaction, Quick was actively holding the team back this year. Gavirok makes LA better immediately and I wouldn't sleep on Korpisalo either, their fans should be ecstatic for the boost this will give their team.

I'm sure Quick can sign a one day retirement deal with the Kings in the summer.

and the best GM's realize this. You're no longer a fit for the team? GTFO.

Quick almost certainly got more money in his deal to exclude an NTC.

The Flames did right by Kipper and they weren't going to the playoffs anyway so they didn't have anything to gain in the short term.

The Kings did right by the team in the short term as they want to make noise in the playoffs.

No true right or wrong by either team. A person could flip it the other way on the Flames and say they should have got some assets for the future

Teams make tough choices and sometimes they have to hurt some feelings. Let's see if this pays off for the Kings.

Ah ok I get it now so if Quick had a NTC on his contract, Kings thought it meant Not too Close and therefore were able to ship him to Clb.

Are we still waiting for confirmation to update the OP?

Jonathan Quick was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets by the Los Angeles Kings for Vladislav Gavrikov and Joonas Korpisalo on Wednesday. The Blue Jackets also received a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and a third-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft.
