Rooney is $175,000 against the cap buried. It was a low cost mistake.

Guys you can just put in the AHL aren't really mistakes. They're free depth.

Unless of course you're hunting for negative things to post!

Ok if you look at it that way then it’s not a big deal

But it’s a concern that whoever scouted this guy actually think he can help

There are only three big mistakes BT has made that come to mind immediately.

Waiving Paul Byron that last time
Signing Troy Brouwer
Signing James Neal - although trading him for Lucic and a 3rd made up for it imo.

You could also argue that Hamonic was a huge over pay.

Agreed and the Hamonic deal would certainly be on that list for me.
But interesting that these more material mistakes are all years in the past. So if one evaluates more on the last 3 years BT seems to be a very good GM.
My fear is that he's going to make the choice to leave.
And then we will be all reminded what having a bad GM really feels like. Because I don't think good GMs will be lining up to takeover the job.

No it's not.

He was brought in to be a fourth line player and ended up in the AHL. That's literally a slide of player 18 to player 20 on an NHL roster.

If a scout saw something in him, it's a good gamble. If it doesn't work out, it's no big deal.

You can't just fill a camp roster with prospects and hope they're ready, you have to have someone to pass.

I know that the results are not what we wanted, but I do give credit to BT for pushing all in to try and make a run at the cup. Trouble is, the stars on the Flames team #### the bed when it came to the playoffs.

A GM can only do so much, at the end of the day the players have to be accountable for letting the fans down.

Those are the ones I think of. And almost all made sense at the time (though Neal had a bad rep if you cared to look hard enough past the stats).

I actually have the Hamonic deal second on your list behind the Neal signing. Also, I love Lucic as a player, but no way trading a disastrous contract for another disastrous contract makes up for the first one.

Imagine if we would have had another $6mil forward that plays like one on this team last playoffs? That Neal signing (and subsequent Lucic trade) was a crippler to that core build.

Yeah the owners should be the ones upset. Not the fans.
