End of the day it was poor MGT, both at coaching level and at a gm level

Plugs like stone didn't need to be signed. Huberdeau and weather were rushed to be signed. And Sutter needs to go.

Valimaki was a tire fire in training camp ... he was awful.

He was worse than Mackey, and Meloche, in the pecking order, and that coupled with his invisible play in the AHL the previous season and a higher contract had him a) the best guy to cut and b) a somewhat unlikely guy to be claimed.

Don't see the point in grinding on this one. The right call was made at the time. Period.

he also made twice as much money

Yotes signing him to a one year basically league min deal doesn't prove anything obviously

Good for him. Four 2nd assists but still, who’d have expected that.

Sam Bennett once had four goals.

Oh well. It didn’t work out for him with the Flames.

But someone literally is paying him millions of dollars to play hockey.

Which is definitely a first world problem.

Just worth mentioning that the Flames made the wrong choice in keeping Mackey and waiving Valimaki.

Stupid decision.
Are you insinuating that they chose to ride the wrong 'macki?

Yup. Vali mentally checked out as soon as he was sent down last year. It was never going to happen here. From that point on he was just biding his time, waiting to be traded or picked up on waivers.

He quit on the team, and he’s been rejuvenated at his new job. It happens.

I wanted to be able to defend him this year, but he was flat out AWFUL in the pre-season. No bad deployments, no Sutter bias, no partner to blame- he looked like a confused junior. Totally awful.

This can happen when you're afraid to make a mistake, I doubt Jusso ever had the type of tough love Sutter gave him and wasn't ready for it.

With his skill and skating I still think he'll turn into a solid NHL Dman though.

Now all Sam is is a 50 point hard nosed center who kills penalties, not the goal making machine a 4 goal might would make you think he is. He is doing great in Florida.

Looks like 3 primary assists and one secondary assist to me. 18 points on the season so far.

Yawn, former Flame prospect doing great things in another organization, whether it is Tkachuk, Bennett, Valimaki and there is always one guy to crap on that player. I hope Jusse turns into what he should be, a consistent 30-40 point dman with mobility and size. He probably will eventually get there.

Look at the positives, we have Mackey. No need to crap on former prospects.

He's never scored 50 points, though he's been on pace to twice. And he's on a PK that has been ranked 16th and 26th in the league in his full two seasons with the Panthers.

No need to keep wearing rose colored glasses on former prospects. He's established a modest NHL career for himself that will never live up to the lofty expectations of being drafted so highly.
