The AHL team isn't always equipped with NHL ready players at those positions. You don't want top prospects in those roles, and you may not have that next Lomberg up and ready to go.

Free depth if they're beaten out by said AHLers anyway.

And it doesn't even cost them cap space if their salaries are $1.125M or less.

Wasn't it Sutter that wanted Rooney ?

How are you not a capologist for an NHL team by now?

Carpenter was a 5th rounder not a 4th. Jarnkrok seemed like a good deal at the time. Cheap contract, could play center or wing, right shot. He wasn’t the ideal third line center that’s for sure.

Carpenter was a wasted pick it just wasn’t a 4th

Jarnkrok was a fine trade target, and I wish we had been able to re-sign him to the deal Toronto gave him.

Snakebit for sure, but he's a really good utility player.

I don't think so.

After Rooney signed, he mentioned that the Flames offered him a contract a few years ago, but having just been in New Jersey and getting another offer in neighbouring New York, he chose New York. That original attempt to bring him in would have predated Sutter.

Some here seem to think that these UFA players will just take whatever deal we want to give them too. Negotiations don't work that way and if another team is interested the Flames may have to pay a bit more to get a player they think will work for them.

Thanks for the info.

He hasn't fit in with the system and in all honesty I hope he gets picked up by another team. Not just for the cap savings but to also give him the chance to play. He is an NHLer just not in our system.

Yeah, I was looking at the Leafs on CapFriendly yesterday and did a double-take when I saw he was signed for 4 years. Rielly is the only player they have signed for longer.

Yeah, I imagine Tre is going to do something about this.

I think 4 years at $2.1M is a steal to be honest. I think he'll still be effective by year 4 of the deal.

don't know about tomorrow's game but against the Leafs I would expect a 4th line of

I doubt they make a claim though.

Rooney assigned to the AHL is a $175K cap hit, correct?

Willing to retain up to $175K in a future considerations trade with the Rangers in order to be rid of the contract?

Let's tell the Rangers we'll make a claim for Carpenter if they take Rooney but then we can't take Carpenter because cap complications. Win.
