You can't stonewall your number one for 7+ days though. It just makes no sense to take him out of action for that long. Make no mistake, if Markstrom isn't at his best tonight against a pretty blah team, Vladar will likely be starting Saturday. If he continues to play as well as he has, he will certainly be pressed into more of a split start rotation.

Vladar played 3 of 4
he also played like "ass" until recently
Would be nice to get both guys rolling, you don't want either sitting too long.
I remember a time when people wished for Rittich to be the starter because of stellar backup play, be careful

Well, good news! I can practically guarantee that Vladar has not, in fact, played his last game with the Flames and will be given at least one more after tonight. Rejoice!

that doesn't mean playing vladar like the #1 .. but the 1a
I would give him 2 of every 3 until marky shows he wants his old post back

Entirely possible Markstrom shows he wants his old post back tonight. Here's hoping. He's had a few days to right the ship.

for about 25 games now .. going back to last season
pretty long "recently" stretch
but go on about how he needs to start 8 of every 10 games regardless of the quality of play because that's helping this teams season

Vladar had one bad start this year with below a .895 SV%. Markstrom has been below that mark 9 times (7 of his last 9).
This should be Vladar's net right now. We need wins.

This is the closest Markstrom has come to being put on notice. Vladar is starting to show that he can step in and step up. Now it's time for Markstrom's response, so I don't really have an issue with him starting tonight.
This team is still best off with a starter that's proven he can be elite. Let's hope he comes in tonight with a convincing answer.

Markstrom will get the starts sadly because of his contract and his locker room presence. Even if he continues to suck I expect Sutter to run him out more than fans would like.

He'll get the starts because last year he was 2.22 .922 with 9 shutouts, 2nd in Vezina voting and has averaged above .910 for the last seven seasons.

Last year doesn’t really matter much at this point if he keeps playing like he has. Ofc if he bounces back like we all hope then good. But I think there is some truth to teams figuring out his glove hand is weak. And I have no idea what’s up with the constant soft goals or him shrinking back into the net instead of using his frame. Anyway I agree with giving him 30-40% of his starts. Even if he sucks well Vladar has never been a starter either and I don’t think he’s ready yet to be a 3/4 game goalie.

No. You have 13-14 forwards and 2 goalies.

This year won't matter much either if Markstrom doesn't regain his form.
They have to figure it out together. That won't happen by mothballing him for six straight games to go with the backup.

Some of you are hilarious
"Play the backup more at least once a week we can't overplay Markstrom and have Vladar sitting too long"
Then
"Play Vladar every single game or else"
Flames need both guys going
