I haven't missed Tkachuk for a minute since he's been gone.

Well I won't lie. I miss him. Say what you will but he was the heartbeat of the team.

Good and Bad. Like disappearing when going gets tough.

When he gets through several playoff runs as the heartbeat of the Panthers than I will wonder what we could have had. Until then I just hope we got a good return for him.

Player not liking his demanding former coach isn't exactly a bombshell. I hear there might be a player or two who still refuse to send Bob Hartley Christmas cards.

IMO, Gaudreau, Tanev and Backlund were the heartbeat of the team. Tkachuk was/is a great player, but I always felt he was president of the Matt Tkachuk fan club.

I’ll say that he absolutely wasn’t.

It was unfortunate that we were pulse-less once we got to the playoffs, and half the time we didn't even manage that. Tkachuk is a very good player, but I don't think he carried this team in any of his years here.

Seriously though, it's not like this team has no heart. They're working their butts off on a nightly basis, and they start on time. It just takes time for everyone to gel, and for some guys to get used to bigger roles because of injuries.

We can say anything we want about Tkachuk, but one thing that I believe is undeniable is that he would be the best player on the Flames roster was he still here. They are missing him every game.

Either the best or the worst, depending on how he’s feeling

I don't think the Flames minus Huberdeau and Weegar while adding Tkachuk are a better team at all.

Seems like the Panthers are worse too

Undeniable? I think it's pretty debatable at best. IMO, Huberdeau is a better player, and I would have said that (did say that) last year.

In fact, I am pretty sure there were discussions about the best players in the league on CP last year, and the general consensus was that Huberdeau and Gaudreau were in the top tier (take your pick as to who you like better), and Tkachuk landed somewhere in the next tier. I would suggest that would be generally agreed upon, league-wide.

If you want to suggest that a dozen games changes that, knock yourself out. But I strongly disagree.

Darryl made reference in training camp I believe that perhaps last year some player La were more concerned with individual numbers and not team success

Chris Tanev is the most important player on this team.

It’s not a coincidence that we win the night he’s back in the lineup.

Since the beginning of last year:

56-24-11, .676 with him in the lineup
0-3-2, .200 without him.

Tiny sample size for the second part, but I hope we don't get to see any more data points.

Agreed. There's a place on my team for a player like Tkachuk any day of the week, but that place is not the captaincy and it is not for him to be "the guy".

He's too self-absorbed and too caught up in the extracurriculars (like the Doughty drama, constantly trying to fight Klingberg, etc.) to be the leader of a team. He's immature and while I was a huge fan of him on the ice I was always disappointed that he never seemed to grow up much.

Tkachuk was absolutely not the heartbeat of this team never was. Matthew Tkachuk was the heartbeat of the Matthew Tkachuk fan club. His "Thank You Calgary" was a highlight reel of his goals.

His stupid play vs teams like the Kings made them play us even harder and made him disappear.

Lot will disagree but for casual fans he was super entertaining. I am a diehard for over 25 years ( crying internally) but my wife is a casual fan and will watch most games with me but be on her phone or distracted with other things.... and she even said its a lot more boring without Tkachuk, maybe not heartbeat but definitely entertaining and a #### starter. Fun to watch.

You could be a dedicated fan and recognize the potential leadership and/or franchise qualities Tkachuk possessed.
