If there’s any doubt, I’m guessing Beesley still pronounces it Kah-dree like everyone else does?

To me it does feel a bit like Harnarayan is trying a bit too hard; someone mentioned “forced diversity” which I can agree with to some extent, although I’m also open to the possibility that maybe it’s okay to be uncomfortable or annoyed with it (although I’m not quite sure exactly what this does to promote diversity or inclusion).

It worst it’s a bit annoying because it feels out of place, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. If the Flames were on a winning streak people would be less irritable I’m sure, and Kadri himself is playing pretty well so thats a plus.

Kind of similar. It annoyed people. I don’t remember any accusations of racism with that one.
IIRC, that was because *Alex Chiasson (not Steve) clarified the pronunciation and requested that people say it that way before the season started. It wasn't really a Wills choice.

I see this complaint coming from a place that is much, much different, and it's totally unnecessary IMO.

It’s okay for people to like the way he says it.
It’s also okay for people to dislike it as well.

No it has nothing to do with race, just because you disagree or dislike the way he pronounces it doesn’t mean they’re racist towards Singh.

No it’s not the way Kadri pronounces his own name, that we know.
Does Kadri care about it? No probably not
But it’s okay for people to be annoyed/curious/miffed as to why all of a sudden Singh started doing this for 1 player in the league… it is a bit odd after all.

Just stop with the race card, the game thread was rediculous with people calling racism and ignorance just because of the pronunciation.

We all don’t have to like the same things, if someone disagrees with you its not the end of the world… don’t project that as something it isn’t.

Debating names is time honoured CP tradition. Mangiapane, Giordano, Tanguay, Chiasson, Langkow.

The only twist this time is we get to throw in some thinly veiled racism to spice things up.

I don’t see much of an issue either way myself and don’t know where any of the “racism” allegations were lobbied, but having cruised through this thread, I will say that claiming Singh is doing it because he’s a brown person with a secret agenda against white people is a fairly insane thing to say.

Some of you need to relax.

Singh says Kadri the normal way 20% of the time, which makes it more annoying when he pushes the fake accent on the name.

Unless Kadri requested it, it's weird and stupid. That is all that's going on here.
Save the racism card for where it's actually needed, there's plenty of places for that.

Has this topic been beaten thoroughly enough yet?

Singh is most likely not saying Kadri's name correctly as he is using a Punjabi accent to say a middle eastern name. One is Indian and the other is Lebanese. These two places are culturally different and 4000 km apart geographically. It has nothing to do with religion. It appears one is Sikh and one is Muslim.

Singh is a good announcer and he is great for the game of hockey, broadcasting and promoting inclusion. All of this can be true and people can still be perplexed, or even annoyed, by his pronunciation of this particular name.

I've always heard it under the NHL sheet's suggested pronunciation "Ka-Dree".

But, for what it's worth, my Lebanese coworker pronounces it the way Singh does "Nah-thim Ka-dur-ee".

Holy #### . this is where we are at ? I think Singh is doing a fine job .

He is a little slow on the play and doesn't see all of the finer nuances in the game.

BUT this is ridiculous let him have his "seasoning" on his play calling it's not like he is calling a monster truck rally like the ####### up north.

I love it myself . How many of you chuckled when Cherry purposefully mispronounced names on Coaches corner. Well this is the opposite this is trying to honor him and his culture.

And his personal pronunciation may have a lot to do with being born and raised in Canada. Most of us in the Asian community try to lose our accents to fit in .

I'm sure it's the same in the Arabic community.

Calling the game using both the native pronunciation of every name and the accent of the language the name originates from would be kind of awesome to listen to. A powerplay with Huberdeau, Kadri, Mangiapane, Zadorov, and Andersson together would be amazing. Just listening to the play by play would be entertaining.

Regardless of how it is pronounced in the country where the name originates, Singh should pronounce it the way Kadri pronounces it and the way Kadri wants it pronounced. If that's what he's doing he's fine. If that's not what he's doing he should cut it out. This is really simple.

Also, sounds like Rick Ball is doing better, which is good. I miss him.

Sh-ants vs. Sh-awntz.

Any soccer fans remember Gareth Wheeler's brief fun with "Lay-ee" for Ritchie Laryea? Ritchie basically said "Thanks for that, but my family hasn't used the Ghanaian pronunciation for a few decades since moving here".
