My friend's father died from a blood clot and I'm almost certain it's was from PE if I recall correctly. Mostly healthy man in his early 50s who prior to his death had some complaints about neck and chest pains. He went to the washroom one night and didn't come out for a while. His wife tried to open the door only to find him on the floor. Ambulance showed up but it was too late and unfortunately he passed. They determined the clot was in his heart and that's what did him in. Terrible stuff.
My friend was at my house that night. Cops called him that night after we went to bed about the news and came to pick him up since he was drinking. One of the most surreal nights of my life that I still find hard to believe happened.
Rick really is the best PBP in the business and the only reason I dare watch SN and their terrible broadcasts. Hope he gets a standing ovation at the 'Dome his first night back. The interview with Francis is on the SN website and is worth the listen.

Thanks for sharing the interview. Glad to hear Rick's on the mend. He's actually a bit older than I thought he was from his voice (had only seen one or two pics of him).

Makes sense. I'm glad they caught it in time!

sounds like he had syncope there, glad he pulled through. From experience when your heart stops you feel dizzy for like 1 second and boom you're out, no time to even say "i'm passing out" it is a scary feeling
hope he's back soon!

Now that Rick is back, hopefully the Flames will be too. Good to have him back in the fold.

Looking forward to hearing Ball call the game tonight. I have missed him and he has really become the 'voice of the Flames' for me. Even happier he went through this unscathed - well, relative to what could have been. Scary time for sure.
I also appreciated everyone that stepped-in and called the games in his absence. I have come to prefer Ball, but I have had zero issues with anyone else, especially when you take into consideration the circumstances and short-notice. I think they all did a fantastic job.

Loved to hear Rick on the broadcast last night...he really is just the best! Thought he was going to burst out crying when he thanked all the fans, friends and others for the well-wishes while he was out....just terrific to see him back and well!!
