I, finally, got to see a 'Hawk game. I had dumped the satellite, as too expensive, as I get ready to retire, and no longer have either TNT or NHL Network, so can only catch games streamed on ESPN plus.

The 'Hawks were in San Jose, where the Sharks ran out to as 2-0 lead. At that point, they must have assumed that the 'Hawks are, indeed, tanking, and would have folded. But, Toews is not a tanking type, and clawed one back. Then back to back SHGs Dickinson to Lafferty. In the 3rd, Lafferty got the A for Dickinson, and the 'Hawks closed the scoring when T. Johnson blocked a shot and sent Raddysh on a breakaway.

After the 1st the Sharks generated nothing, and failed to play any defense, to boot.

Still, it's gonna be a long season for both squads.

It is early but this is why reportedly the Flyers didn't go after Johnny. They determined that signing him wasn't going to be nearly enough to change their fortunes overall. And that's the same with CBJ. I get it, they had a great player fall in their laps. Can't blame them for saying yes to it. However, they have a lot of work ahead of them still. It's going to really hinge on how guys like Johnson (though he has some of the strengths and weaknesses as Johnny) but overall they lack some elite talent. And they probably aren't going to be as bad as teams such as Phoenix and Chicago.

They are going to be largely an irrelevant team.

In a few years they could be pretty good and it's not like Johnny is going anywhere. I don't think anyone expected Columbus to make the playoffs this season as the roster still needs work. It's what they do in the next 3 years or so that will determine if this signing is worth it for them but adding a star player of Johnny's caliber will probably make it worth it for the Jackets as he's one of the players in the league that's worth the price of admission to watch live. I don't think winning was paramount to Johnny's choice of location as he wanted to be a Flyer first and foremost.

Agreed but he could also push them into higher draft positions. At this stage they've drafted high twice (5th taking Johnson and 6th taking Jiricek). I like both pieces a lot. But they probably need to draft higher for a couple more years at least. Sillinger is a good piece but likely tops out as a 2nd line centre, and maybe ideally slotted as an elite 3rd. The rest of the system isn't particularly well stocked because prior to the last couple of years they were goinng for it.

I just see it as a very long road that isn't likely to end with a contending team. Which maybe for this organization and for Johnny is OK.

The best OOT game had to be the Kings-Wild. It was an all out forget about defense game with the Kings winning 7-6 in reg time. Fleury was booed at the end of the 1st period as he let in 4 goals and was on the bench for the second period. Kempe and Kopitar each had 3 points in the Kings win. Both teams did well on the PP.

The Knights scored 12 seconds into the game and were up 5-0 after 2 periods. The final was 5-2 over the Kraken. Marchessault with 2 goals and Aidin Hill was in net making 31 saves in the win. The Knights have never lost to the Kraken.
