Aside from Telus, has anyone come across any retailer or businesses that are charging new transaction fees?

I haven't, but I think we should name and shame any that do in this thread...

I just saw that this morning which had me wondering if any stores in Calgary were doing it yet. One thing that I haven't seen clarification on is whether GST/PST is charged on top of the fee. I saw in that CBC article that the fee is charged pre-tax.

The fee is just a charge for a product/service, there is no reason for it to be gst exempt.

If it is a fee charged for financial services it should be tax exempt based on my very limited knowledge of GST in Canada

True, and a good point. If that meets the definition of a financial service it would be exempt from gst.

The definition of a financial service is here:
https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/....html#h-933610

Not clear to me whether this qualifies.

You mean name and evaluate their pricing to see if we can get a deal paying debit.
