I would think the Flames will place Klyington on LTIR if the league approves the request

Re: Valimaki - I think he clears, especially given his contract. He’s not NHL ready and no team is going to keep him on an NHL roster for that reason. Although I’m curious if he did get claimed and then put back on waivers, if the Flames would even try to get him back.
It’s funny because on Wednesday Steinberg was on 960 and he and someone else (I can’t recall who) were lamenting losing Valimaki and his “first round pedigree” on waivers “for nothing”. A day or two later, I saw the discussion had shifted to whether the Flames should give up an asset to move Valimaki in order to free up the cap space.
I think Valimaki lost his “first round pedigree” after the knee injury. I haven’t watched him closely but it sounds like he’s lost a step and hasn’t been able to compensate in other areas. Sucks, but injuries happen…

I think the Flames are asking to have his salary not count at all - essentially a suspension/leave, for personal reasons
If that doesn't fly, then LTIR

LTIR is irrelevant, and would actually prevent any accrual of cap space if we can manage to stay under the cap without using it.
22 man roster + OK = 750k cap space (very slightly accrual)
But if we want to call up another player making any more than 750k we'd need to use LTIR.

I seem to have missed the story on Kylington...is there a story? I thought he was just on personal leave for family stuff? Is there more?

There is no story, it's exactly what you said and what was in that post. Kylington is with his family for personal reasons and won't be playing to start the season. As they allow him his personal leave, the Flames would rather not have his cap count so they're exploring those two options.

When it was first announced, Treliving said that would not take any questions about it and asked that they respect his privacy. I have to say, the Calgary media's cooperation has been amazing. I am sure some of the media members have more information, but they have been tight lipped. This kind of media integrity doesn't exist in every market.

It's nice that there's been no wild speculation here, either (AFAIK).

You're right, and someone should remedy that.
I speculate that Kylington has actually been abducted by aliens from the Lesser Magellanic Cloud. They saw the Bond-villain beard he was rocking last season, and want to use his DNA in their program to breed the perfect Evil Galactic Overlord.
Seriously, best wishes to O.K. and his family, and I hope he's back with the team soon.

I'm pretty shocked Valimaki fell off so badly with his development. More shocked they dump him at this time. I guess he didn't have much of a trade value, unfortunately.
