That, of course, assumes that Stone would accept an AHL deal.

I’m not sure the date during the season, but if a player signs an NHL contract after that specific date, he has to go through waivers. Islanders stole Nabokov one year like that from Detroit I believe, and let’s not forget the Ryan Orielly fiasco.

And, if you're going to have 2 D on the 2nd unit, including Hanifin, then leave him and Andersson together.
Weegar on the 1st, Hanifin-Andersson on the 2nd
seems too obvious

I'm sure other NHL GM's know Stone only wants to play in Calgary so won't claim him as a professional courtesy.
Then we have Stone as depth in case we need it.
|
Why pn earth would Stone sign a two-way deal? When he signs his contract it will be for a guaranteed NHL salary.

Looks like they are set on forwards and goalies. A little surprised zohorna gets a spot minus scrutiny.
Defence will be a bit of a mess. Especially when Kylington comes back. Don’t think any of the remaining players are waiver exempt. Might mean Stone will be in tough. Some risk of losing someone at final cut down.
Guess is Stone is released and one of Valimaki or Meloche are sent down.

Because I'm lazy and won't look into it myself...
Anyone else releasing any PTOs of interest?
More a curiosity than anything as I feel we're set at this point unless Tre makes a trade.

Milano was definitely a disappointment - had he been what we hoped, he would have been a perfect fit for the top 9. Eakin was meh - no difference between him and the other filler guys. Zohorna has more upside.
The D is interesting, in the sense that I am surprised they haven't already dealt with it. It seems to me that Mackey and Stone will get the 2 available spots - maybe Meloche bumps Mackey - and the other two go down.
If Valimaki gets claimed, it is very helpful for the cap, and banking space for the trade deadline

I don't believe that is entirely true. I am quite certain I saw some conversation earlier this Fall that Stone would still need to clear waivers to join the team even if he doesn't sign a NHL deal until months into the season.

I'm definitely concerned about Dube and toffolli being top 6 wingers. I don't know if they are capable of consistent offensive output.
Other than that, roster looks good on paper.

Doubt they bring in the waiver guy if they were watching other team’s PTOs

I think Dube is going to take a step this season. I’m with you on Toffoli.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
If we were relying solely on Toffoli & Dube in the top 6 then there may be some concern but they're interchangeable. Huberdeau, Lindholm, Managiapane & Kadri. Thats the focus.

Not too surprising though Eakin didn't look horrible but I'd agree we have others that are similar. All that hang-wringing that the Flames cut their prospects because eof Eakin too! We'll learn for next training camp from this, I'm sure!

Well he is on record saying he won't play anywhere else so it makes sense. If the team says take it or leave it he wont' have another option.
If he plays his cards right, he'll make a really good AHL salary ($450k and still get into a few NHL games at some point for sure.

Is this team fast enough and will they be able to handle the greasers speed and McKinnons speed? Its only preseason but they have a ways to go to be ready for that first game against the Avs.

it's going to take some work and time for things to click . I thought they out worked Winnipeg for stretches but had trouble generating grade a chances because of lack of familiarity . I'm glad dube is in a top 6 spot because he either will flourish into the player we want to see him be or not . getting bounced around the bottom six where his point production will be limited is a waste in my opinion

I've said that for 3 years now for Dube and been disappointed. I think he is what he is, a decent bottom 6 forward.

He had 32 points while playing on the third line last year, and has never had an opportunity like this. That line has looked stellar in two preseason games and he does not look at all out of place. Dube has done this preseason what most were hoping to see Milano, Phillips or Pelletier do. I really think he is on the cusp of a breakout.

Agreed, I think Dube will take a step this year if he keeps up his work ethic. He's on the cusp of popping.
