That's the Joel Otto of the future for the Flames. I really hope he makes it on the big club this year or the next. I liked what I saw from his time in Calgary last season.

He's going to have to use that size package more consistently if he wants to be the next Joel Otto.
I thought he had some really good offensive vision last year and helped the fourth line be much more effective in his short time replacing Richardson. He got better defensively too, after a rough start.
But he's never really used his size.

Ruzicka has the total package to be one of the most productive centers the flames have had in the last 10 years. But it's up to him to put in the effort and drive.

This really makes me wonder if they see Ruzicka making a serious challenge for a permanent roster spot this year. And if so, where do they want him playing? I remember Sutter saying last season that he doesn't want him on the fourth line; that if he was in Calgary, he would be playing in the top nine. Could they be thinking of having Backlund/Ruzicka splitting time between lines 3/4? Could you imagine Backlund centering the fourth line?

This is deep if you look at it this way.
Lindholm/Kadri 1C
Kardi/Backlund 2C
Backlund/Ruzicka 3C
Ruzicka/Rooney 4C
lots of slotting up and down opportunities

Including in the dot. Ruzicka isn't very good. Otto used his size to bully his way to faceoff wins.

I think Ruzicka used his size more effectively last season that Colborne or Jankowski had. I think that is what helped to make him a bit more effective. He was no Joel Otto, that's for sure, but he did use his size a lot more along the boards and on the forecheck. I noticed an uptick in his willingness to play more physical.

I think that he is the possible Backlund replacement in a few seasons. I hope he comes in and forces the team to keep him on the roster! Guy is exactly what the team needs

That's an area where Ruzicka can definitely learn from Lucic. I hope he makes the most of the opportunity.

I grew at least a centimetre after age 22. Mind you, that was probably just the calluses on my feet getting thicker.
