(assuming he can make the team, which is still a question mark)
I think he makes the most sense playing with Backlund and Coleman. They can do the heavy defensive lifting, and he can add offense to the line. They need a playmaker.
Lots of depth and and flexibility there. It will be interesting to see how Sutter utilizes everyone. I can see Milano, Coleman, Toffoli, Dube and Mangiapane bopping around the lineup a lot depending on performance and matchups.
You forgot Eakin as well!

Milano-Kadri-Mangiapane could be a huge pain in the ass line to play against. IMO.
I think that Tre is still looking for a forward but this is a great PTO pick up and could prove to fill any gaps without requiring payment. Low risk high reward.

I am hoping Pelletier can earn that 3rd line spot. But even if he doesn't, he is going to play NHL games this year when there are injuries.
I also really like the idea of Pelletier, Schwindt and Zary all playing for the Wranglers and kicking some ass.
It will be interesting to see it shake out. My gut says this is a move based solely on firing a shot at the middle six wingers to up their game. If he does show well and makes the team, I'm not sold on the idea of putting a guy like Milano with the teams two best shut down forwards, and I'm not sure that Sutter would either.
Backlund and Coleman have both played with more creative players in the past, and it didn't really do much for their output. Those two are going to go about their business and put up 35-45 points a year regardless, while providing some great 200ft play. There is no point in attaching someone who isn't suited to that kind of game to a T to potentially be a weak link. I'm not ready to make this claim in stone as I haven't seen him play meaningful NHL hockey, but I would say it isn't out of this world to suggest that Pelletier could already be a better 200ft NHL player than Milano.
I guess if both Pelletier and Dube don't seem up to task you may be forced into a situation like this, but for me, it seems highly unlikely that Milano would supplant both players.

love the PTOs so far. Milano can play, Eakin can play, we all know Stone can play. I wouldn't be shocked if at least 2 of them come out of camp with a contract with the Flames. Either way, they should add good competition and that's never a bad thing.
I was wondering why a guy who doesn't have terrible career numbers at the age of 26 was not qualified, then pushed into a PTO situation. Speculated to myself there may be concerns about his attitude. Glad you shared this. If Milano is now healthy, this could be a really good addition to the team.

I really like the chemistry Mangiapane and Coleman had last year with Backlund. I think they are similar to the player Kadri played with in Colorado. That could not only be a good offensive line but also cause fits to other teams with some agitating players.
You can put the two speedy wingers with Backlund in Dube and Milano.
