Hanifin for Nylander seems like a pretty reasonable basis for a trade.

That is a good point. Maybe I’m overvaluing the cap space savings and position importance with Hanifin. Perhaps a straight up Hanifin for Nylander trade is reasonable. I definitely would like to have the player as I think he would be a great fit with the new look flames.

Would be funny if the leafs did trade for Hanifin because it would mean the leafs have essentially acquired the flames top 3 d-men from 3 seasons ago (Gio, Brodie and Hanifin).

But can they resign him with term?
Because I feel like that's what he's going to want.

Yeah for one year, then what? No cap space to also fit Miller in next year. Treliving isn't going to throw the farm at one year of Miller.

They could probably easily create the space.

Backlund, Toffoli, Dube, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov could all be moved with only one year left on their deal next year.

yea but Vancouver is holding on out to land premium assets for Miller, as well his ask is $9M for a new contract. He will also be 30 by the end of next season. 3 players signed for 7 years plus well into their late 30s...eh

Hanifin for William Andrew Michael Junior Nylander Altelius actually makes some sound sense...
Would give us another epicly named Swedish House Mafia player to boot...

Love the idea of getting Konecny somehow..
 Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
 Mangiapane - Kadri - Konecny

 Drool worthy top 6

Side note (or maybe for another thread): what happened to Zebulon's name on Wiklipedia - it now reads: "Elias Viktor Raineri Lindholm"

I know Hanifin is the trade bait. I just think that, not unlike Jaybo, he will be a guy the Flames wish they had in the future - a minute eating, smooth skating defender. I mean not good enough for the Flames but good enough for the Canadian Olympic team and the Cup winning Blues.

As another poster already pointed out, the Flames will likely look to trade for D depth at the TDL so I'd rather they only offer Valimaki or Kylington in a trade this off-season. Better to keep the top 4 strong from the start of the season and add depth at the TDL, IMO.
Konecny has come up many times over the years, it seems; what + would be required to add to either one of these d-men in order to land him?

He is clearly going all in the next few years now, and will maximize the roster going into this season. I bet hanifin is that guy just due to his contract and what he can net in a return would not be surprised to see a legit top line forward out of the east in a trade.
 |
If Treliving is going all in for the next few seasons as you say why would he trade away a 25 year old top pairing defenseman making less than 5 million for the next two seasons?

He averaged over 21 minutes per game last year.

Surely there isn’t a forward available right now via trade that is more valuable? if so, who?
