I never thought anything would make me think the 2018 incident would pale in comparison and yet here we are.
And this doesn’t sound like accusations the way 2018 is, where there can be a shred of doubt. This is a recorded gang rape. There’s no grey area when it comes to an unconscious victim. These ####ers are guilty as sin.
This could literally tank hockey Canada. How does anyone turn around and cheer for the make up tourney in a month? I know I can’t. It’s not fair to the current crop of players but honestly the hockey Canada logo is poisoned beyond repair.

This is disturbing to say the least, I hope they can still get prosecuted. Who knows how many other stories now that will come out.

From the r/hockey post on this:

Grew up with Scottie. There was a similar incident back when he played on the Oil Barons where Scottie and other players on the team engaged in group sex with a young, intoxicated girl.

Reports like these make me care considerably less about the uncertain and difficult state of the Calgary Flames in the Summer of 2022.

Totally! What guy at that age isn’t a horny little idiot. I was able to escape my late teens without having gang raped women.

None of this is shocking to me. I’ve been at arms length from hockey at higher levels my whole life & the weird group sex crime rape fraternizing thing has always been talked about.

Yeah.. sexually abusing an unresponsive girl and clashing swords and fluids with your teammates. I bet that was so hard to resist.
How did the rest of us make it through our teens without doing the same thing? It's practically a rite of passage..

Been thinking the same thing. With our assistant gm at hockey Canada through this and a possible perpetrator playing on the team it seems losing 2 star players is the lesser thing that's having me consider relinquishing my season tickets.

This doesn't shock me at all to be honest. Hockey boy culture was/is the most toxic #### ever.

So do it.
Nothing related to the issue though.

The sport and culture around it is frankly moving towards repulsive, ever since the Beach story and the pitiful responses from people within the Blackhawks organization with the audacity to go to bat for those that helped facilitate conditions for abuse to occur.
The fact that we still can't seem to get identities of the perpetrators - meaning that a number of people on the inside are still protecting them, and none will step forward to take accountability is just such a bad look. Not from a professional perspective but a human one.

The fact it’s not shocking to anyone that players engage in this behaviour is disturbing in and of itself. It feels like it’s just a matter of time until we hear more stories come to light.

Me saying I want to step away from supporting a sport and team that employs people that are likely involved or knew about an apparent culture of sexual abuse and cover ups has nothing to do with the issue? Ok.

I wasn't implying that it was just a problem with Canadian hockey teams. I left the possibility open to other World Junior / national teams from other countries having the same sort of culture.
It's just that here in Canada, World Juniors are a really big deal (and maybe more so than in other countries). They're like our version of the Olympics. So the implications of a fallout involving Hockey Canada would be huge. It'd be arguably at the same scale as the IOC banning the Russian Olympic team from participating in the Olympics for state-sponsored doping. It's a widespread systemic issue that has been allowed to go on for far too long.

This is a sports problem. The deification of athletes creates a culture where young elite athletes live an entitled existence.

This is problematic well beyond sports.

You're right, it is. But I'll reiterate.
The fact that this happens significantly more often while in groups tends to make one think that its more pervasive as a 'Culture.'
A drunk hockey player alone might be a reasonable person.
A group of drunken hockey players is a disaster waiting to happen.
