Maybe he will do alright in Toronto, but he definitely didn't work out here. That ended up being a huge waste of decent assets.

His cousin didn't tell him to take a bag of pucks to sign here?

He was completely mediocre in Calgary and we gave up a lot unnecessarily to get him. Good luck in Toronto, even on the 4th line he'll be critiqued for taking too many shifts off. Meh.

He didn’t take any shifts off. Consistently high compete level.

I’m surprised he got a 4 year deal even at that AAV, I thought he was very bland here.
Flames are better without him and leave a spot for AHL players.

A lot of you are shocked at the term when this was the guy that signed a 6 yr/12m deal last contract. Some people just like stability.

So one goal in 29 games is a high compete level?

Pro rate that to 3 goals a season or less.

High compete level?

We have different standards.

Production isn’t the same as compete, and the game is played at both ends of the ice.

Jeez, I know the trade got a lot of people hyped up at the time, but that looks terrible in hindsight. Wish I could say I enjoyed his single goal is almost 30 games as a Flame, but that would be lies.

Good motor but terrible hands.

He skated around really fast but never really did anything. Our farm system kids will add more value at half the price.

He was a depth add for a playoff run that didn’t materialize.

In the end, with Monahan sidelined for the season it was an important acquisition and a good "rental" for a team primed for a deep playoff run. I don't have any issues with it but I hope Tre has a plan to recuperate some of those draft picks.

Other than the Game 7 win, that trade may have been the high point of the season for me. Flames were loading up and seemed like we had a clear path to the WCF. I remember the optimism here on CP and listening to Flames Talk podcast. It was the moment I truly started believing we were in for a deep run.

He better be a selke winner cause he could not score a goal in the regular season for the Flames.

Who did he shutdown in the playoffs? The Oilers fourth line? Come on? He was useless.

So you were impressed by him?

Well worth a 2nd 3rd and a 7th round draft pick? For 29 games and one goal?

High compete level?

We have different standards with players.

No, don’t think he was worth what we gave up in the end (how could he be given the results?$, but he more than pulled his weight defensively.

And, obviously, he’s got a far bigger track record than 29 games with the Flames. I’m not basing my standards of a 4th line defensive forward on how many goals he scores over 29 games of his 650 game career, but we can just agree to disagree if that’s what you prefer.

If we would have re-signed him, would have softened the blow of what we gave up. Now it's a total waste.

Was there any reason for waiting for Monahan to IR until after the dead line or just bad timing

Nice deal. He will fit nicely on the third line with Kampff and Engvall.

Werner has already signed in Sweden.

I suspect if there was any interest in Parsons, any team in the league (NHL or AHL) could have had him for basically free last year, so I'd be very surprised if anyone ever pays him to play hockey again in his life.

I think Jarnkrok is the kind of guy you want on your team - especially at that price. He contributes in ways beyond scoring but can still chip in (despite his time here). Good pickup by the Leafs.

Toronto only has 750k left in space, and still has two RFAs in Engval and Sandin. Something has to give.
