Sure, but they lost the defenseman that was their best defenseman through the playoffs, and Kulak was a good stabilizing force.

Campbell is a decent goalie but incredibly inconsistant.

I don't think the playoffs are some sure thing. It'll be interesting to see what they bring in today. But for a team that in their winning widow for the next two to three years, they're nowhere near close.

Kane turns 31 in a couple of weeks. Not only does he have a history of multiple contracts not working out (he's still currently going through legal proceedings for his last one), but who wants this guy until 38? 7 years was not happening, after only a few months of good behaviour/play. The contract he signed in 2018 was the 7 year big UFA deal, and he messed that up pretty badly.

I did expect the AAV to be higher here ($6-6.5), so this is a bargain for the Oil.

Good. I was really afraid of him signing with Calgary which would have been one of the few things that may have caused me to no longer root for them.

I meant I thought he would get 7 million in the open market, not seven years. But now the bomb is ticking for the Oilers and if it goes again there is zero chance they can move him after all the previous stuff he has done. This is a very high risk deal.

Good AAV for the level of hockey player that he is. But with Kane, it's never about that.

When they signed him last year, I had no doubt he would help in the short term - of course he was going to play nice after all he had been through, and now getting another chance with a new team.

But that was the short term. Toxicity takes time to cause damage. Now that he has a 4 year deal, the real personality will start to percolate to the top. That team already seems like there is some tension between the haves and the have nots, once Kane settles in, I expect it to get significantly dicier.

I welcome this signing for the Oilers!

Yeah. It's a good deal for his production, but definitely a move that could backfire. Kane has a history of blowing up locker rooms.

I hate this guy.

For all his foolishness, his production has been remarkably consistent. 20 goals in seven straight seasons.

He's not that young anymore though. So apart from being a locker room cancer and an utterly bad person, hopefully he doesn't pay much attention to taking care of himself and starts to break down.

His time in Edmonton was the utter high point of his career, never to be replicated.
