Maybe he was just trying to give him a smooch.

Minus the helmets, this looks like the first time I kissed a girl, except Danault didn't get a nose bleed.

If you can look at that play, and NOT see an intentional head butt, you should be permanently banned from operating heavy machinery.

Don’t care if it’s the playoffs.
Don’t care what prior punishments were for other players.
Don’t care about the ‘1 game = 2 regular season games’ nonsense.

The guy launched his head into another player’s face. Intentionally.

If that’s 1 game I guess the Kings might as well send out some goons next game to do the same thing to both McDavid and Draisaitl. I mean, the precedent has been set. They’d only get one game. And you’d take them both out, win the game, and move onto the next round.

The NHL’s ‘punishment’ is a joke.

This looks really dangerous to me. Having a guy that tall and strong just smash his helmet into another player's face at full force? How is that any different than a swing with a stick to the head? 1 game is a joke.

I didn't even notice the two handed slash on Danault just before the headbutt. And not a single penalty called.

That is actually a good talking point when talking to Oiler fans. They want regular season standard for penalties in the playoffs, so should that not also include punishments?

I actually can buy the argument that he didn't "mean" to headbutt him, but I don't see how that makes it better. Even if his intent was the throw the shoulder at the guy, he got over zealous and his head too far forward/ too low, he was being reckless with body contact after the whistle, suspension would still be justified.

He is not trying to use his shoulders at all

Not sure how you can watch that video and think he didn’t mean to do it. It’s about as obvious as it gets.

I agree with most I see posted already. Even if it wasn't intentional it was still reckless. 1 game suspension is a joke.

Jeez, he literally launched upwards like Super Mario. 1 game is incredibly lenient.

Totally intentional and exceptionally dangerous maneuver.

Beyond brutal.

NHL Player Safety messes up yet again.

Clearly Nurse's intent was to throw the shoulder. He just missed wildly because he has absolutely no coordination or control over his body. I mean, it's not like he's a professional athlete or anything.

The exact same mental gymnastics that Nurse employed when thinking(?) how to make the hit.

just saying you can see him caulk is shoulder up for impact, in his head in the moment when it's not slow motion, he probably was thinking of a shoulder impact. but once again a professional athlete accidentally slamming his head into someone because he's not controlling is body and leaning too far forward is still very much worthy of a suspension.

If it was unintentional that shouldn't be an excuse, it should be an indictment.

The most telling part is the follow through with his head after the contact is made. That's clearly intent.
