And to think that in hindsight Treliving served to drive up the price that Vegas ultimately paid for Eichel, onlt to curse themselves with a boat anchor.

Well done, wizard man. Well done.

Since Eichel returned on February 15...
  • Buffalo: 32GP | 15-14-3 | 33P | 97 goals scored
  • Vegas: 33GP | 14-14-5 | 33P | 97 goals scored

That also happens to be the night Toffoli played his first game with the Flames.
  • y-Calgary: 34 | 23-7-4 | 50P | 132 goals scored

I was 100% on the trade for Eichel bandwagon.

I still think he'd be a force on a Sutter coached team, but I certainly don't regret the way things have turned out this season. Hopefully the results stay the same going forward too.

I'm liking this timeline quite a lot actually.

I don't know if the Eichel to cgy timeline would've been a better one given that we ended up with the top line in hockey. 10M for Eichel probably means he breaks that group up, or one of them goes back to push that trade through. And our cupboards are likely thinned by a good piece too. Don't know if that reality is nearly as much fun.

Thing is what it would have cost, its not like they would have just added him for free

The next best thing to the Greasers missing the playoffs. Now I look forward to seeing the show they put on in the off season trying to fix their cap situation lol

The Sabres will make the playoffs before Eichel does. This was a Hail Mary year for the Knights and now they have to blow it up over the summer.

Gotta love it. Vegas built the greatest expansion team ever, that could have been a long term contender, but is now going to spend a decade in mediocrity followed by a rebuild.

I have been enjoying the side story of Buffalo fans cheering against Eichel and for a higher pick. Amazing how that trade has turned their entire franchise around and Sabres fans are now optimistic for the future

They're going to win the draft lottery aren't they?

Buffalo would be happy with that. Isn't the first they gave up this draft?

I still think this was a good deal for Vegas. It didn’t work out for them this season but they got a top line center in his prime. He came back from the surgery in the timeframe that they said he would and he had some respectable numbers.

Where I will admit I was wrong was that the Flames needed to make this happen any way possible. Tkachuk and Gaudreau have proved to me this year they are more valuable than Jack and there is no way we sign both if we made this deal.

Really happy things worked out the way they did at the end

Its to early to judge the Eichel trade in my view, Eichel likely was not even close to being 100% after being away for Hockey for such a lengthy time

He likely needs an full offseason of training, before he will return to his previous level...

However the LTIR situation requires a rule change for sure.....

The draft pick was protected. They wouldn't be able to move up higher than 6 assuming Vancouver doesn't pass them (or 5 if they do). If the pick ends up in the top 10 then they keep it.

Per tankathon - they have a 1% chance of picking in the top 10 now.

The Knights will have to shed some salary in the off-season, but in no way, shape or form do they need to "blow it up" or "rebuild".

A healthy Stone and Lehner all season likely has them comfortably in a playoff spot this year.

That being said, the wild card ownership could see just about anything happen with that club. I just don't see him throwing in the towel at this point though and his penchant for wanting the new shiny toy at every turn likely sees some trades and such to ensure they are competitive once again.

They probably have enough $10m players for one roster. Who are they trading and what draft picks?

Eichel leaving Buffalo is the best thing that happened to that franchise in many years. The return they got in the trade was a bonus.

Agreed, Vegas had a boat load of injuries throughout the season.

Its hard to make the playoffs, and injuries were a factor for sure.

I am interested to see what off season changes occur,

That is a possibility and a decent possibility. It may also be that Stone and Eichel and Lehner are not the same players next year depending on their health. Injuries have a way speeding up a player’s inevitable decline. Other than Eichel most of their core players are turning or are already 30 next season. They have traded away all of their good young prospects. Lehner may also demand a trade due to the team’s treatment of him or the team may smooth things over with him. It is not so clear that they will be as dominant a team just based on past results. Further they still need to shed at least one more decent player to become cap compliant. It will be an interesting off season for Vegas.
