Thought Markstrom made some great saves to keep the Kings at 2 goals, then Johnny took over in the 2nd period. The PK was solid, tons of great blocks from Tanev and Gudbranson.

Solid solid win!

I've seen them review penalties this season to see if it's a major. I've never seen them review a call that was never made.

I have no doubt if that happened to a Flame they wouldn't have even bothered because they were winning.

lol, for only the team trailing?

Refs shouldn't be biting so hard on dives either...just encourages more dives

Nice to see them grind out a one goal win. Need guys like Toffoli, Mangiapane, and Coleman bury their chances.

Unreal top line.

Johnny should win the Hart. Most even strength points, highest plus minus, team is in first place, top 4 in scoring.

Loved the effort tonight. Just wish these guys would stay out of the box.

I’m shocked so few people were aware of the rule. The reffing was terrible overall but the high sticking call was done correctly. It’s been a rule for 3 seasons.

Not to my knowledge.
That’s not what happened. But what happened tonight is within the replay rules.

The NHL will also begin allowing the on-ice referees to review their own work on major penalties (non-fighting majors), match penalties and double minors for high sticking.

For double-minor high-sticking penalties, the referee making the call will have the discretion to review it at the scorer's table. If upon review it shows that the offending stick was not from the player being penalized, the referee will be able to rescind the call.

Flames were being hooked all over the ice and didn't get a call after they took the lead

Summarizing some Johnny factoids from the game thread

now at PPG for his career
4th Flame with multiple 95 point seasons (Iginla, Nilsson, Fleury)
7 point lead over Matthews in Even strength points
21-22 Gaudreau now 2nd all time in Flames EV strength points (Nilsson). Gaudreau's 18-19 season 3rd

Yes.
They never made a call in the first place, they weren't checking to see who's stick it was

lol at refs missing the high stick, seeing a cut player, going to video to review what happened, watching a video of a King's player lifting a Flames' player's stick up into the cut player's face, then giving the Flames a 4 minute penalty

Pretty much straight out of the WWE guide to reffing.

that still reads like you need to make the call to begin with- although maybe the spirit of the rule extends beyond that

Great gutsy game. Penalties will kill this team if they don't get it together. Looking at you, Chucky.
