I'm just trying to wrap my head around how Vegas traded Marc-Andre Fleury, who had just won the Vezina, last summer for Mikael Hakkarainen- a forward the Golden Knights then promptly released in August.
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks then trade Fleury for a conditional 2nd that can become a 1st.
Combined with the Eichel trade- which to-date is not looking great, as well as the Dadonov #### show continuing to unveil in the other thread, I am a bit blown away at just how badly mismanaged Vegas has been over the last year or so. I'll give them a slight pass on Eichel, at the time I thought he could be awesome, and who knows maybe he still can. But Tuch and Krebs got are looking like studs, and if they stayed pat they wouldn't be in cap hell.
The Blackhawks basically got 3/4 a season of a very high caliber goalie and a 2nd with potential to be a 1st for basically free. It is insane.

It shows the value of cap space when a great player like Fleury was available for that cap space. It’s why Monny likely cannot be moved without a cost.

Nah, it shows how Vegas got too smart for its own good. They naturally had to lose a goalie because they had two high priced ones. They chose poorly.

Moving MAF was inevitable, so my complaint was the way he was overused once that decision was obvious. Now, we have no clue about how any of the other guys on the roster can handle the load., BTW, the conditional #1 would be top 10 protected.

Dubas reportedly upset that the Blackhawks leaked the trade talks of MAF + Hagel for Mrazek, 2 x 1sts, Knies.

Seems a bit hypocritical when the nixed Brodie Kadri trade got leaked. Leaving an awkward situation for the Flames and Brodie.

I think they know how the other guys can handle the load. They can't. Chicago, if MAF is not brought back, will be looking for a replacement.
Plus, it was no guarantee that MAF would approve a trade, so it wasn't inevitable he would be moved.

Lehner has been bad to be sure, likely because of his issues resurfacing. If "healthy", he was likely the best choice. The bad choice is more hindsight than anything else.

Lol and you always find a way to bring and slag monahan in a thread.
That's not at all what it shows anyways. It shows that Vegas was stupid for not waiting it out a bit for a better trade on Fleury.

It was odd that they got Lehner to begin with IMO. Created a goalie controversy where none existed. They could have signed a decent backup. Fleury, coming off a Vezina, only had a year left, so he wasn’t some huge risk.

It was the Knights who said Knies.

You're likely right. The Capitals did sweep the Devils, but used Vanecek (4), Samsonov (3), Anderson (1).

A new tactic when playing the Knights will be to say the word "it" during a game

An old player on the last year of a a high AAV deal playing a position of scarcity was moved for free...proves that a questionable player on the last year of a high AAV playing a position of scarcity can't be moved?
I'd argue that more teams need C's than G's; MAF's play is certainly closer to his AAV than Monny, but not that dramatically different (MAF should be ~$5M AAV ($2M diff); Monahan closer to ~$3M (3.3M diff)
